SANFORD, Fla. — The police chief at the center of a fatal neighborhood watch shooting says he is stepping down temporarily because he has become a distraction.
Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee made the announcement at a news conference Thursday. Lee has been criticized after police did not arrest George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer who shot an unarmed black teen to death on Feb. 26.

Whether you think the shooting of this "kid" is justified or not, this needs to be tried in court (If it should get there) as a matter of law, not a media lynching.
Unfortunately, it is too late for that now, this will not end up well, imo.
Too bad. According to my law enforcement sources, this Chief was very good and well respected. He is a victim of a political lynching.
And to think I want to be Sheriff.
The replies were more interesting than the story.
Give ‘um a rope and they’d have both Z man and and the Chief dangling at the end of it.
In today's climate, I don't know why anyone would want to go into public service other to enrich themselves wit either power or money.
That's a shame too, I'm sure there a plenty of good people with honorable intentions who don't run just because of the current climate.

Virtually none of the media is reporting that the kid physically attacked Mr. Zimmerman.
They are barely reporting the kid was 6’3” tall. From most of the reporting you would think he was tiny. Shep Smith used that very term.
And that Zimmerman had the marks on his face and grass stains on the back of his clothing to coroborate his claim.
Gonna be a long hot summer....
Not to mention a witness who saw Trayvon on top of Zimmerman while pummeling him.
Clearly unimportant details for the media as they whip up a racialist frenzy.
He will be vindicated.

It wasn’t immediately how long the police chief would step aside. Martin’s parents said that wasn’t enough, and that Zimmerman should be taken into custody...News of the police chief’s decision to step aside spread quickly among the protesters, many of whom showed up more than two hours before the start of the rally. They chanted “The chief is gone. Zimmerman is next.”
Some carried signs that said: “100 years of lynching, justifiable homicide. Same thing.” Others sold T-shirts that read: “Arrest Zimmerman.”
Of course, most of these people have TONS of time on their hands, since their glorious failure of a "leader", Barack Hussein Obama (mmm mmm mmm) has worked very hard to create an environment where they do not have jobs.
And Zimmerman’s back of his head was bloodied requiring stitches. 6’3 black guy on top of 5’2 hispanic, holding him down while pummeling his face and head into the ground. Gee, if you thought you were going to go unconscious and possibly die, would you shoot the black punk? Would you? (I would.)
And it is amazing how many are buying the story of lean 6-3 160# athlete getting chased down and cornered by 5-9 200++# tub o goo, which is the narrative being pushed even by some here.
