There used to be a lady active on a local forum who posted lots of family pictures. She carefully blurred the faces of all family members so they couldn't be identified. She freaked out and accused me of stalking when I sent a P.M. telling her what her name is, make and model and serial number of her camera and the dates of several pictures. The Canon she used allowed entry of the owners name but all digicams embed a lot of data in each image. It can be stripped out but often isn't. I was warning her that she was compromising all her privacy concerns, she was too dumb to realize what was going on and raised Hell with the forum admin.

When the investigators talk about "layers" they are talking about combining different images into one. For a simple example when I sign an image I can sign anywhere on the image, then move the text around until it is where I want it.The text exists in a separate moveable layer until I "merge" or "flatten" the image.

The B.C. forgers were working with different software than is used for photographs but the principles and techniques are related. They did not expect close scrutiny and expert analysis and the careless flaws and errors show.

Or purposely left that way. There are some that believe the forger was pointing to Alvin as the director of the forgery with X and smiley face.
