‘This is a game-changer'

VAIL, Colorado Howard Cooper has spent most of his life looking for the Next Big Play in the oil and gas business. He thinks he's found the latest bonanza off the coast of Israel.
Cooper lives in Vail, but for the past two and a half years, he's spent countless hours in the skies between Denver and Israel, working to tap part of a giant natural gas basin deep under the Levant Basin, in the Mediterranean Sea in Israeli territorial waters.
Current estimates show there may be 130 trillion cubic feet of gas available in the basin. To put that number in perspective, 6.5 trillion cubic feet contains the energy of roughly 1 billion barrels of oil. The United States used about 19.1 million barrels of oil per day in 2010. Israel, a tiny nation, used less than 250,000 barrels per day in the same period.
Cooper said if the Levant Basin gas fields produce as expected, Israel could not only become energy independent, but could become a gas exporter. European markets are particularly interested in the Levant Basin, Cooper said.
It's a game-changer for the Middle East, Cooper said. In Europe, access to Israeli exports will break the current natural gas monopoly held by Russia's Gazprom energy company. It will also create jobs in Israel, Lebanon and Palestine, he said.

European markets are particularly interested in the Levant Basin,
The only game changer here is that the European's have even more reason to force Isreal to the table to give control of it's territories to the Pali's. Watch for an even stronger push by Europe on the state of Israel.
Then we have Russia. It's support of Syria will strengthen to try to prevent the competition on natural gas and Russia's control over Europe it has due to Russia's supply to them of gas.

Israel builds a wall of natural gas flame throwers around their border and powers their whole infrastructure from the finding,
Interesting that you say that. Due to all our reserves wouldn't that apply to us too? Then your post could read
The USA builds a wall of natural gas flame throwers around their border and powers their whole infrastructure from the finding.
Sorry I like mine better.

Sorry that has no logic. It is warm there NOW and plants (except in Israel are not growing. Many other factors are involved

Correction. To many Lebanon and the Pali’s are the only country there.

In all fairness, I’m sure the Palies would be more than happy to allow the Israelis to drill it and pipe it before they demand their share. Just like the rest of that God-forsaken land.

I agree with you:”... it almost makes the fossil fuel explanation one to be questioned.”
For years I've read several different articles regarding this, what I believe to be a complete falsehood, but the other side of the coin is that some researchers have indicated (and this is just one alternative theory...there are several but this one makes the most sense to me) that the sheer pressure of the tectonic plates creates this liquid we know as oil. Through the shifting throughout the millennium, oil has increased each time the earth shifted (earthquake) and the plates came/come together with such force that everything is liquidated.
I don't have any sources stored to cite but like you, I'm suspicious of the meme that (only) plants and animals rotting give us oil (fossil fuel). My personal (unscientific) opinion is that it is and has been BS.

Could there really have been that many rotting plants and animals with just the perfect conditions to create, capture and store that much gas there? Expand that thought to all the massive oil and gas being discovered all over the world and it almost makes the fossil fuel explanation one to be questioned.
********************************************************
I’m pretty sure that phrase “fossil fuel” will disappear in my lifetime ,, in this galaxy we have methane clouds , planets with methane/butane/heptane oceans “gas giants” and much more ... I think this oil and gas was part of the planets founding ... from when it all coagulated ... hell the earth just might have a lead and gold center (heaviest items)...
To: JSteff
I said when the EARTH was warmer, not just the middle east. When global temperatures were much higher several parts of the planet looked radically different, but overall much more conducive to life.
Not sure why you would not be able to make sense of a simple, truthful statement...

Because the earth was far different than now. Mountain ranges alone changed much of the climate on most land areas. That all comes and goes continuously. As man got/evolved on the planet for example the rift valley was changing that region of the world (continental drift played a factor there too). Ever note that the mountain ranges generally have a severe desert in close proximity? As the continents drifted they pushed up the mountains everywhere.
So before that (among other things) all was as you originally described. But was already changing to a much dryer area. That is one example of what I pointed out... that there are far too many factors than just "it was warmer". Australia is another location like that. It was as you pointed out warmer and lush with plant and animal life. Mostly a swamp with the majority under water much of the year.
Again though, with minor change to the land other than continental drift it too went to the reverse as it dried out. So again, the situations are not as simple as was presented... what I posted was not meant as a degradation of you or your post. Rather a minor correction to it for better accuracy.
Generally I will give you that it was warmer.. but also the oxygen was better and the continental movements contributed to the changes. But it all works together and not as simply as presented.
For one, generally when there were more plants there was more oxygen... plants need water and a relatively narrow temperature band. For a large period of the earth, that was a large part of what allowed the larger animals of all types. It must have been glorious to see.
Still not as easy as presented "warmer=larger animals in size and or number". Only sometimes. only sure bet is that most likely it will change back and reverse itself over and over.
