Pull em all out. I pray for this family, as with all families of our troops.

What this poor family must be going through I can only imagine. It has to be terribly difficult going about their daily business.

My heart grieves for the victims, the Sgt’s family and the Sgt. himself. He must have been in terrible mental pain for something like this to have been carried out by him.

thanks for posting

In my opinion, her statement was succinct, classy, positive and careful not to assume the worst. In short, the kind of press release a good "military wife" ought to put out.

I am certain this would have never happened if we had an adult in the White House.

An adult would be in the war to win it, and not to tie our soldier’s hands with outrageous rules of engagement.

Obama’s weak foreign policy is making us look like a weak and unreliable ally for ANY government counting on our support.

God bless this family. And God bless the families of any innocents killed in Afghanistan, too. I pray for them, as God loves them as well.

The consequences of having a weak foreign policy resonate for years—undoing the damage done by the current Occupier of the Oval Office will take a generation or more, and it will require a spiritual awakening here in the United States and in Asia.

The fact the military (or the WH) is keeping them in the dark is unforgivable.

WTF with the ‘protection’?

This all needs to be laid at the feet of he who created the absurd Rules of Engagement in affect in Afganistan.

I’m confident that a large share of those slain presented themselves to this by their own actions.

The soldier is inocent until proven guilty.

I still wonder was this “move” done to protect her—or more to make certain her husband would co-operate? Second to this how much is our own government now controlled by the very Islamic terrorists we are purportedly making the world safe from.

Thanks for posting this, xzins.

It’s difficult to imagine what Karilyn Bales, the family and SSgt. Bales are going through but Karilyn is a class act.

Prayers up for them all.

This man and his family deserve our support and sympathy. From all I have heard and read, he should never have been returned to battle.

That is an excellent, thoughtful, well-written statement from Mrs. Bales.

A trap was set.. He was probably set up. The scary part is WHICH SIDE set him up for the mutual objective of exiting Afghanistan? He doesn’t sound like a man who would sacrifice the safety of his family to help get himself and possibly his fellow soldiers out of Afghanistan.

Veterans Get Risky Painkillers

Week of March 19, 2012

Stars and Stripes reports that a new study has found that recent U.S. War veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) along with physical pain are often prescribed Morphine and similar powerful painkillers. Subsequent suicides, other self-inflicted injuries, and drug and alcohol overdoses were all more common in veterans with PTSD who received these drugs. The Department of Veterans Affairs paid for the study, which is based on VA health care data. An abstract of the study is available on the Journal of the American Medical Association website.

"Our family has little information beyond what we read and see in the media."

This is so disturbing. Being a wife, knowing a little bit above nothing and having to depend on what the media reports. Why would the media receive info before the wife does? This is wrong.

Prayers for Karilyn and her family.

To: xzins; a fool in paradise

Pardon me, I don’t wish to hijack the thread, but when was the last time we heard about Soviet and later Russian war crimes during the WWII, and in Afghanistan, Chechnya, Georgia, or about Cuban war crimes in Africa? You say, there weren’t any, you say we are better than that?! In war, I say, we are all scumbags, and let’s trash this relativism. We let the Russkies and the Cubans get away with it, let’s deal with that first! I mean, let’s deal with US letting others getting away with genocide.
