‘Game Change’: A made-up narrative from two axe-grinders
The Washington Times ^ | March 18, 2012 | Joseph Curl

From watching “Game Change,” this much is clear: (1) Steve Schmidt is an absolutely brilliant campaign strategist who gave Sen. John McCain the idea to put “Country First” (it had never occurred to the war hero); and (2) Nicolle Wallace is a demure, yet quietly ingenious, media savant who can handle any crisis.

Oh, but wait: Mr. Schmidt ran one of the worst campaigns in the history of presidential elections, losing to a first-term senator from Illinois with no experience governing anything, and Ms. Wallace let the entire message of the McCain campaign be overrun by — “Saturday Night Live”?

I spent a year of my life on the McCain campaign, and I can tell you this: Nuh uh. “Game Change” is a ridiculous farce of a movie — even more absurd as a chronicle of a major historical event — that appears to have been written mostly by Mr. Schmidt and Ms. Wallace, two players who have major axes to grind with the higher-ups of the McCain campaign.

Mr. Schmidt was a longtime loser when he entered the McCain campaign, losing race after race — he served as communications director for Lamar (Lamar!) Alexander’s pitiful run for president: Need we say more?

Ms. Wallace took a similar path, starting out in California politics, then switching to Florida. Like Mr. Schmidt, she worked in the George W. Bush White House before joining the McCain campaign. I was covering the White House at the same time; she wasn’t much of a force there, either.

Privately, she got crosswise with Sarah Palin almost immediately after joining the campaign, although publicly, she was all aboard. What’s Mrs. Palin like on the trail?: “She works harder than anyone I’ve known in politics,” Ms. Wallace said....

Slowly, but surely, it all starts to leak out. Schmidt, Wallace and the Romney goons (who worked for McCain in the general) are coming off as a bunch of back stabbing malcontents.

Wallace and Schmidt might as well put a D after their names after this.

The last sentence in the article (referring to Palin) is intriguing: “Not to be obscure here, but you’re about to find out her true power.”

As for me, I wish he’d been less obscure.

Nicolle Wallace worked harder to minimalize and destroy Sarah Palin than she did to defeat Obama.

The Republican Nominating Convention was terrific. McCain didn’t say very much, but he was smiling and gracious and made a good impression as a patriotic war hero. There were no gaffes that I can remember.

Sarah Palin made a tremendous speech, and came over extremely well. And the two candidates with their families looked great standing on the stage to be applauded.

It was all downhill from there. And a big part of the problem was certainly McCain’s handlers. But he has to take responsibility for them.

Or a "C".

I’m starting to think she just might be the nominee when the dust settles.

There is a fundamental difference between

Seeing politics as a product/sales campaign of marketing and brand placement to get people to buy it

vs...

A War/conquest campaign that lead to inspire the troops, convert the populace, and crush the opponents...

The problem is with the country club GOP people that think like sales men rolling out a new product...

While the left thinks like Hitler/Stalin/Mao running a war campaign of conquest...

That why we need to think like Washington/Churchill/Reagan to battle and beat the left

Salesmen are afraid of offending anyone because you want everyone to like you brand...because you make more with everyone

War is about conquest of the enemy not fear of offending the enemy ...you do not need everyone.....you just need enough to win

And in politics like war ...you do not need everyone.....you just need enough to win

Yet Ms. Wallace appeared on MSNBC (now also a homestay for Mr. Schmidt), to tell a different story: She was in shock just “how close we came to having somebody a heartbeat away from the presidency so fundamentally unprepared and unsuited for the job,” noting that (Poor Nicolle!) it was “the most traumatic experience to realize that they were working on behalf of somebody who — it’s an open question whether she is fit to serve, I certainly don’t think she was.”

So instead we have a Zero who was way over his head as a Jr. Senator. This woman has suffered some serious brain damage from the water bong. She's not even on this planet.

McCain LITERALLY endorsed Obama for President during his campaign.

Now I find out that his team hated Palin more than Obama.

What could POSSIBLY have gone wrong?

I think it was in Milwaukee a a rally that McCain literally told a woman in the audience that “she had nothing to fear from an Obama presidency”.......... I told my husband that day that we had just LOST this election.

I knew there were folks inside the campaign that hated Palin, but after the dust settled and we got the Won it became abundantly clear who it was. So, let's revue folks. The Establishment GOP also hated Palin enough to let this happen. They hated Palin and what SHE stood for enough to let us (USA) get saddled with this zippy socialist.

And now these same scum - Wallace and Schmidt are again working on Romney's campaign. My 2 cents. And I've got a pocket full of pennies. sigh. So IMHO this is also why they hate Newt. What do you think?

What could POSSIBLY have gone wrong?

He was a RINO in our midst. A true traitor to conservatism. His beliefs are that of a liberal democrat, he was in it for what HE could gain and the country was of little matter to him.

Obviously Palin would have far superior as president to Obama or Biden. Obama is nothing more than a rank disaster. Does anyone doubt the economy would be as bad with Palin? Does anyone think Palin wouldn’t have given the go ahead to take out Bin-Laden? I get the feeling Schmidt and Wallace have burned their bridges with the GOP.
