A new report issued this week from the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) and social media network Linkedin that studied a wide range of industries showed that the newspaper industry suffered the biggest decline of any from 2007-2011.

While renewables grew 49.2%, the Internet 24.6% and online publishing 24.3%, newspapers led the way in a downward direction, shrinking a whopping 28.4%.

There must be a statistic somewhere about aggregate number of newspapers printed per day in the US - that would be quite interesting to see.

My main concern is how will we line bird cages and house train puppies?

We need a Congressional Investigation quickly...

The concept of the local paper has surged back into viability in the small towns around here.

Our weekly local folded last week - web and print.

I would get a newspaper if they could get their act together and quit being shills for the Democrat party. I could hide behind the newspaper when Mrs. blueunicorn6 would ask me why I hadn’t painted the grass or some other job. I can’t do that at the computer. And my back is to her so I never know if she’s just bluffing or if she really has her pistol. She’s too good a shot to mess with. I painted the grass five times last summer.

Ignore your customers, but if you happen to acknowledge them, call them stupid and bigoted.

Look down your nose at them and make fun of and ridicule them

Present your ideology as fact and the opposition as raving, extreme lunatics and if you are ever caught, deny, deny, deny and if finally, totally exposed, print the retraction on page H-19.

Overcharge and under-perform, and pretend that it is 1912 not 2012, and there are no TVs, radios, Ipods, cell phones, social media and that the NY Times is the only source of truth and light.

Oh, you have been behaving that way, and still wonder why your industry is dead.

Sorry, can't he'p ya.

Newspapers these days cover stories from both points of view: socialist AND communist.

My local paper used to be : The Greensburg Tribune-Review and then moved into Pittsburgh and is much larger but is still semi-conservative.

Compared to most papers it is ultra right wing, but compared to reality it is more FOX like than conservative, it is almost fair and balanced, kinda like what you would want in a NEWSpaper.

Since they run so many syndicated stories, i.e. AP, rooters, etc. there is no way that they can be totally balanced but the editorial pages are semi-fair.

The obits are normally accurate and the sports pages normally get the scores correct.

Our delivery person is normally here by 5 AM.

Overall, if you live in W PA and still read a hard copy news paper, it is the best one in the area.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette is so far left, that even the sports pages are slanted and corrupted.

They tried a free campaign last year and I wouldn't even bring it in the house, straight to the trash.

Papers dont help themselves by allowing left wing cartoonists like the bumwad that draw ‘Doonsebury” overtly insert vile politcal statements in the comics.
That strip last week was the sickest, meanest and lowest attack on the GOP and average Americans I ever read outside of the Daily Worker

That might work if I had my back to the wall. She’d probably just shoot the breaker box. She liked the paperboy, so she never shot him. Fired over his head a couple of times when he threw the paper into the bushes. He got so fast on his bicycle that he could outrun Lance Armstrong in a 100 yard sprint.

Newspapers in Europe are doing well—this is an American problem that comes from The newspapers and media no longer reporting the news but what the editors believe you need to hear. They have become a branch of the Progressive movement—with the goal of transforming America into a command society. And they have had some major successes—Destroyed Sarah Palin as a valid force—Killed the Tea Party with Big Lie tactics that would make Gobbles proud. How many Americans believe the Tea Party was made up of Racists? They did their evil work well. They drum up support for Any Liberal cause. So no wonder the people now see them as a new version of Pravda? They do not buy the papers because they are sick of the propaganda, liberal pounding in each issue.
They hope to single handedly re-elect Obama. Look to see Government support for the newspaper—forced subscriptions for all Union Members—etc... I predict only a few papers left in the future—all promoting the Government line. We on the right need our own media—our own national conservative Organ. It will come but at that time un-sanctioned media will be banned “Too save the children”.

The local big city daily hides its online ads behind a paywall. How much should I pay for them to shove ads down my throat, surrender my privacy as to what interests me, and read regurgitated wire stories and country club republican propaganda? If it’s important, it will probably show up in the free hippie weekly.

No problem there. We still get lots of junk snail-mail, mainly goes in the recycle bin. Plenty of that paper until USPS goes out of business.
