In 1960, Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman would give Ben E. King something to sing about with a song that even had Motown artists and Lou Reed record it over the years. Note the skittering string figures that open the song.

In 1969, Jay Black slowed it down and gave it a more conventional production.

”Lost Highway” was a failed David Lynch film from 1997 that was impossible to follow, and Lou Reed did a version of this song on the soundtrack that is unlike anything else.
