Televangelist preacher Jamal Bryant vowed to “shut down Florida” at a rally on Wednesday to demand justice for slain Miami-Dade teen Trayvon Martin.
“This is a wake-up call for the state of Florida!” Bryant said. “We are going to shut Florida down until justice weighs down!”
The Baltimore preacher and leader of the Empowerment Movement spoke at a rally at the Allen Chapel in Sanford in response to the Feb. 26 killing of the Michael Krop Senior High school student.
Black leaders are vowing to bring at least 1,000 protesters from around the country to a March 26 city council meeting if charges are not filed in the case. The protesters, he said, should bring bags of Skittles like the candy Trayvon carried when he was gunned down after a fight with a stranger.
Trayvon was visiting his father and his father’s girlfriend in a gated community when the homeowner’s association neighborhood watch volunteer spotted him and thought he looked suspicious. The two tussled and guard George Zimmerman opened fire, killing the unarmed boy.
Zimmerman claimed self defense and has not been arrested. The case was referred this week to the state attorney’s office in Sanford for review. Police Chief Bill Lee said there was no probable cause for an arrest.
Because the boy is black and Zimmerman is widely believed to be white, the teen’s family and many activists believe Trayvon was racially profiled. However, Zimmerman is Hispanic.

"It should be emphasized to members that they do not possess police powers and they shall not carry weapons or pursue vehicles," the manual states. "Members should never confront suspicious persons who could be armed and dangerous."
This "manual" is a crock. Who is this "sheriffs' association" to tell sovereign American citizens that they "shall not" carry weapons?
The teen was unarmed. He was in his father’s community and returning to his home after a trip to buy candy. He could be my son or my grandson.
It is not analysis, it is speculation.
We simply do not know what interaction the kid and Mr. Zimmerman had with one another before things got physical, nor do we know which one first attacked the other.
Observing these simple facts is not "excusing the killer". Rather, it is "not being a retard".
Excellent points. If Zimmerman was driving his own, unmarked vehicle - Trayvon may very well have been fearful for his own life - which turns out to be tragically accurate.
We have a very serious neighborhood crime watch group and we would never stick our noses into people’s business unless we saw them committing a crime or had good reason to suspect a crime was about to happen. Then we would call the neighbors in danger and the cops.
We expect the neighbors here to be armed and ready to handle problems until the cops come. We help each other to be ready in case. We are not a gated community so there are no rent-a-cops driving around (thank goodness).
If anyone attacked the neighbors while they were out and about, he or she, black, brown or white - hoodie or not - might end up shot.
I got the idea that he came from an intact family from an earlier story from a few days ago.
However, all indications are still that the kid was not a highly troubled, so i can maintain that position for the time being.
Ray Lewis, Baltimore Ravens, lives a few miles away from Sanford and I haven’t heard a word from him.
Maybe we should be like him and hold comments of both side till it has been fully investigated.
Maybe, maybe not, some will remember Richard Jewell and Eric Rudolph! Some times the authorities get it right.
Many on this thread are assuming, because the dead kid was black, that he was a ghetto thug.
I disagree with this assessment. But the boy wasn’t after Z to stop and explain his presence, but Zimmerman was after the kid to stop and explain his presence, so I still think that Z brought a gun to the fist fight.
It’s just my opinion, but I’m sure this warrants further examination by the authorities.
Of course, we don’t hear anything from these so-called pastors when some black teens throw gasoline on a white kid and tell him, “You get what you deserve, white boy.” Hypocrites.

It proves nothing.
The aggressor was the one who first initiated physical force or threat of violence against the other. Keep in mind that all accounts state that there was physical contact between the two parties before the shot was fired. Who struck the first blow and why? None of the stories I've seen so far answer this question.

Now if they detain you, enter your home, pull you over when you are driving, other specific situations, yes they sometimes need probable cause. Again you claim that Zimmerman "messed with" the kid but you have no knowledge to back this up. There must be some reason why you insist on saying one stupid and dishonest thing after another. I'm guessing that you are probably stupid and corrupt but perhaps there is some other explanation.
