WASHINGTON The Supreme Court rejected requests from news organizations Friday for live, televised coverage of this month's historic arguments on President Obama's health care overhaul, but agreed to release audio recordings of the proceedings on the same day.
The court will post audio files and transcripts on its website within two hours of the end of the proceedings on each of the three days set aside for argument, March 26-28.

Well, since you asked, I'll answer....
I don't like the idea of live cameras in the court. I think it encourages showboating rather than rational discourse. I like the action planned by the court in this case, where they release the audio same day, not live. You can hear what's going on, there is a complete transcript, you have sunlight but none of the Johnny Cochran-like trapeze acts that have harmed courtroom behavior around the country, everywhere it's been tried.
Same-day audio only release was done in Bush v. Gore, and it worked out fine for one of the most passionate cases of our day. I think that satisfies the need for complete disclosure without encouraging antics in the courtroom.
That's how I feel about it. Thanks for asking, because I was getting irritated. Whenever I hear the words "Nobody has ever complained" I have an alarm that goes off in my head because that is *never* true. Somebody *always* complains about a public decision, no matter what it is. 99.9% may agree, but that .1% != 0%. I am an engineer who works with scientists, and we're sticklers for that sort of detail. What is most likely meant is "I've never heard of any complaints."
Consider this example of what I meant by "bureaucratic:" Let's say your town decided to increase parking meter rates by 500%. You get a dozen of your friends to complain to the Town Council and you see the letters they sent. Then, at a meeting you ask them about the complaints. Wouldn't it pi$$ you off if the council members all said "Nobody has ever complained about the increase. Next item!"
You know for a fact you were just lied to in a public meeting. I feel that way every time somebody says those words, as you just did. I accept your apology.
Freedom or slavery.
It’s good they’ll allow some record to be public.
If it’s to be slavery, let the slavers be on the public record.
Sounds just like...
...everywhere it's been tried.
Went to my Doctor for lower back pain, and after some quick normal doctor stuff, like the hammer on the knee, looking in your ears, and such, he pulls up his computer, ask me questions about the pain and clicks little boxes with each answer. At the end, it gives him the diagnoses and prescription recommendation. I was thinking, “Doc in the Box”.
Hah! Touché.
Yes, that’s a little worrisome too especially now that the government is going to program that box instead of doctors. But government destruction of medicine is the least of my worries. I firmly believe that the real purpose of health care reform is to alter the basic premise of individual rights into collective rights. A “right to health care” can only be understood as a collective right which means a state given and state administered “right.”
:-) Glad you were able to see it.

Do you have proof of such problems? Or merely speculation?
...you have sunlight but none of the Johnny Cochran-like trapeze acts that have harmed courtroom behavior around the country, everywhere it's been tried.
Everywhere it's been tried, hmmm?
I think that satisfies the need for complete disclosure without encouraging antics in the courtroom.
That's your opinion. Mine differs.
I feel that way every time somebody says those words, as you just did. I accept your apology.
No, I didn't apologize. But I suggest you don't parse my words like I'm a diplomat with the UN or Dept of State. Especially since you did the same exact thing. Really, I'm just some dude on the Internet.
I'm quite confident all (whoops, there I go again!) us stupid folks get when someone means "no one" has complained it doesn't literally mean no one who has ever lived or is currently living & aware of the issue has never complained one single bit. Lighten up, Francis.

This would be the link.
Agreed. Have a good weekend.
I pray that this ends well... I fear we are about to see the final death of our republic.
LLS
SCOTUS goes into recess at the end of June or the first week of July. Except in very rare situation, all cases argued during the term are decided before the recess.
Thanks so much...I was hoping someone would get around to an answer eventually!
