A lingering football injury from his college days played a part in 6th District U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks’ decision to not seek re-election to a 19th term this year — and will play a role in what he does with his life after Congress, he said Friday.

This is the most blatant example of political spin I can remember. Norm Dicks retires amidst numerous scandals of nepotism, bribery and misappropriation of funds and this is how a paper in his district covers his "surprise" retirement!

This is hard to believe! A friend told me he had never seen a word about Dicks' impending legal problems. I said there must have been a local story and was proven wrong. They are going out of their way to talk about anything but the real reason Dicks' is hightailing it out of the beltway, or involve his sons in any way.

Dude.

Have you ever been to the Olympics?

Port Townsend, in the aggregate, think Norm Dicks is a conservative.

We're talking about the most liberal part of the USA.

They go to confession over eating fish and they grow dope by the ton.

Yeah, there's still a few old-school, born there folks. The majority are imported from all over the West Coast to live in hippie Disneyland.

That said, it's still the most beautiful area in the USA, BAR NONE!

Well, yes it is the most beautiful place I have ever lived - 30 years. But, as they say you cannot go home again.

That said, things must have really changed for the worse - when I was there, at least among the people I knew, Dicks was known as a ultra liberal blow hard, who thought all the salmon in the bay were his personal property.

The majority of the crazy libs showed up in the 80s to bamboozle the the locals out of their homes - mostly Californians and a smattering of Texans (the real wackos immigrated to Portland). They took over the town, ran pyramid schemes, and tried to get the town’s lights turned off at 10 PM so they could see the stars better.

Only heard of a few who grew pot - and they were busted.

Don’t remember any one going to confession over eating fish - but back then, they were filling their freezers full of salmon, halibut, and any other fish they could hide from the fish cops, while making their annual pilgrimage to the dump to offload one or two freezers worth of last year’s fish they could not eat or sell to make room for the upcoming runs.

Greedy, cheesy, bunch of chiselers.

I really had no idea or frankly CARED about Dicks' retirement, since he's been there for so long. Watching the Seattle media, you'd just think he's some homespun grandpa, wanting to drink lemonade on the porch with the grandkids. NOT A WORD about the scandals that would send a mere mortal to the pokey for the rest of his life.

But "resignation is punishment enough"...BS!

I have lived here in Mr. Dicks’s 6th District of WA. for the past 7 years.
In addition to the on-going lawsuit/investigation over the shenanigans with his son, David and Puget Sound Partnership, he couldn’t take the heat at the 2 townhalls he gave when Obamacare was being debated.
He stood in front of everyone and repeated Obummer’s lies!
If the crowd had been near a vegetable stand, he would have been bombarded with tomatoes.
Today he is an arrogant, tired old lush. If his neck hurts, its from tipping back too many “dead soldiers”.
Good riddance!
BTW, there is a couple of very active and growing Tea Party groups out here on the peninsula. The next Rep. here will have an (R).
