White House Press Secretary Jay Carney suggested Newt Gingrich is lying when he claims that he could reduce gasoline prices to $2.50 per gallon.
Carney, who spoke during todays White House briefing, did not specifically refer to Gingrich, saying instead that anybody who says that a strategy exists that can make the price at the pump $2.50 is lying. But Gingrich has made his claimed ability to reduce prices to $2.50 a gallon a major plank of his campaign, and the comment was clearly directed at the former speaker.
Washington politicos rarely resort to the verb to lie when referring to their opponents statements. The tactic usually is to call something misleading or untruthful.
Carneys tough wording suggests the enormity of the threat the White House perceives from rising gas prices and the pain for voters at the pump. Carney and other White House officials have repeatedly insisted that there is little the president can do to stem the increases, and have suggested a longer term all of the above approach that includes not only drilling but development of alternative fuel sources.
The date on that quote was actually January 17, 2008. One of those things he said openly while trying to secure the nomination from the lefty base and tried to hide later.
“Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” — Barack Obama, January 17, 2008, San Francisco Chronicle
It didn’t take us long to find Barack Obama’s original quote, which came from a videotaped interview he did with the San Francisco Chronicle editorial board very early in the presidential campaign, January 2008.
“Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket,” Obama told the Chronicle . “Coal-powered plants, you know, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.”
Bush did it. I guess O can’t. So are they saying that he can’t do something Bush could. Quite an acknowledgment.
Isn’t it funny how Obama believed he could make energy prices skyrocket in 2008, but he now claims there is nothing he can do to lower them. I guess it’s like the guy who learned how to fly a plane but never learned how to land.
“For the WH to call a presidential candidate a liar especially on the eve of do-or-die electoral battles in MS and AL is pretty serious stuff.”
And a drop in the bucket, compared to the ABSOLUTE ORGY OF HATRED we are going to see this fall....
Right on Newt. He definitely is in their heads. However Newt is correct on the subject. GO NEWT GO!
If the U.S. would announce that is was opening all available sources to exploration and drilling, off shore, the western states, Alaska, and wherever else there might be oil, the price would drop overnight. The middle east does not want us drilling our own oil and they will become very competitively priced to make it not worth our while to do so.
A “carney” is a carnival shill...somehow this motard is aptly named.

Actually, in July of 08 , gas was 4.12 under GWB. And on July 14th IIRC, he lifted the moratorium on drilling and by Early November of 08 the national price was 1.61.
In May of 2010 it was national average 3.87 under ovomit ... same we’re paying today and again in June of 2011 it was 3.87.
Close close close on the high price under GWB vs Ovomit high prices but we do know that O’Traitor wants it to “necessarily sky rocket”.........ugh.
The info I posted was on a FR thread a few weeks ago. I thought I had emailed the thread link to myself but I cant find it now... I did write it down as well and that’s where I got the numbers from.
HTH
When pressed on his $2.50 gas promise, Gingrich maintained that it is possible within two years
Newt Gingrich Defends His $2.50 Gas Policy and Says the U.S. Mission in the Middle East May Not Be Doable

“I guess its like the guy who learned how to fly a plane but never learned how to land.”
Kind of reminds me of the 19 Saudis that took flying lessons and had no interest in takeoffs or landings.....
The proper american way of defeating an elected black man is to laugh him out of office..
Newt needs to hire some “writers”..
There is no end to humor by this administration especially the White-Hut..
Newt is a genius at giving one-liners.. and telling jokes.. lets call them stories..
Carney = Designated liar.
Ye it could be problematic if OPEC cuts production in the short term to match increased production on our part.
Newt is on with Hannity right now and says the path to victory is through Texas and California. Hannity said he could hear the resolve in his voice. Newt said this is a wide open campaign and nobody is guaranteed to be the nominee. Santorum was on right before Newt. He agrees with Newt that this can go all the way to the convention and Romney will not have enough delegates to win the nomination.
Really?
He hasn't had the opportunity yet to do it.
Obama on the other hand, already failed (lied) about keeping unemplyment under 8%, and serving only one term if he didn't get a handle on the enormous deficit spending and national debt.
Already happened.
Fact
Give me fact over speculation any time.
The White House should really keep quiet when it comes to discussing projections
I do not mean to hijack this thread, but that statement reminds me of a question that keeps bouncing around my mind.
Le me explain. I am currently reading OIL 101, by Morgan Downey, first chapter : History of oil.
What would be the result if the Middle East oil were to suddenly stop producing? No billion$ to fund sandmaggots and koranimals, no way to pay for food and technology, no way to buy additional advanced or current weapons of any kind, no way to keep their standard of living above a totally subsistence level. No way to fund new mosques and madrassas worlwide.
What would happen?
My prediction is total internal war. There is no way that Europe could afford to fund a Middle East basket case in addition to Greece and Italy...
Thoughts?
I believe I heard somewhere “never get into a war of words with an opponent that is totally unarmed.” That is what Obama is with respect to Mr. Newt.
This entire administration came armed with the truth. I truly believe they really think we are all ignorant, and that we believe every word the all mighty Obama says. NOT!
You are right though, Mr. Newt should call for a press conference and then a one-on-one debate on energy. Of course, Obama wouldn’t show up, anymore than Romney or Santorum would show up for a one-on-one debate on energy or any other subject. Mr. Newt also correctly stated that if Romney and Santorum are afraid to debate him, how are they going to debate the President?
I already got into a tiff with a Santorum supporter tonight, so I won’t use the word stupid (the truth and facts obviously offend them).
This is like a cat saying that there is little he can do to stem the declines in the mouse population.
