I think you have part of it; but I also think you are missing another huge contributing factor. Consider, Daddy-san works long hours; comes home to a wife who may appear distant (becasue she is angry about being home alone - yet demands the finer things in life that money brings). Daddy-san can never satisfy his wife's needs for fine dining, lavish vacations, furninature and an apartment in one of the most expensive places in the world to live. Culturally, Daddy-san may or may not have a mistress (again, culturally accepted and in fact may be seen as is a sign of accomplishment).
Junior gets to play with his video games, and if he is getting acceptable grades; really has no further expectations upon him. He is segregated from Girls, and see's them little more than a parasite that will bond to him, and force him into a life of servitude; and eventaully a family - thus forcing him to take on the role of a father whom he neither really knows, and may will despise for abandoning him.
How else do you reject and denounce a culture you find to be the anti-thesis to the lifestyle you hold dear? He is the most important person in his life, he can do no wrong, it is wrong for anyone to expect him to do anything for anyone else. He is entitled to live a life in suclusion, to play games and postpone adulthood indefinitely; that is how he was raised.

I see it similarly to you, as young men being on strike, having decided that the cost of having a girlfriend or wife is not worth the benefit.
