Actually these are standard Russian munitions that are fired from BM-21 (GRAD), 122mm Multiple Rocket Launcher that have been altered to be fired singly.

Hopefully they will eventually be able to shoot them down so soon after launch that they land in Lebanon where they came from.

Yes and the $300 dollar rocket probably flies quite erratically. If they can still hit 90% that’s probably quite good.

I’m not either, but I remember reading an article on counter-battery fire against mortars not too long ago, and it’s amazing what they can do these days. But it stands to reason in this case it wouldn’t be hard.

If Iron Dome can plot an impact point for a rocket, they can obviously plot an launch point.

Shooting the rocket out of the air is nice, but it’s even nicer to shoot the rocket shooter so he can’t launch more.

The South Koreans have a special radar called "Firefinder" that detects these artilery launch points.

I think its possible with nuclear weapons. They key though is to get them before the leave the atmosphere in their “boost phase”. Once they are in their midcourse phase, they begin dispense chaff and decoys and the missile begins to MIRV.At this point pin-point tracking is very important. Both by satellite and by ground stations. We have the best tracking technology such as the Aegis system(SM-3).The Standard missile system was also enhanced and tested for ballistic missile interception. The key now is to distinguish the RV from the chaff and decoys. Also now you have to contend with MARVs. They are warheads that are capable to move around defenses.

I agree that a lot of the rats would shoot and scoot, but if the Israelis were firm about responding to every launch, the shooters would soon find few places to shoot from.

Loyalty to the cause be damned, I don’t think the people living in that neighborhood are going to be thrilled with the Jihadis setting up a rocket launcher on their roof if they know — not think but KNOW — their homes would be turned to rubble two minutes (or less) after that rocket lifts.

Good points all. Thank you. This is the first time I’ve seen the MARV label.

In the movie Untouchables Sean Connery said properly, “when they send one of yours to the hospital, You send 10 of theirs to the morgue.
