Iraqi activists sounded the bell over the killing of dozens of teenagers by religious police for having emo haircuts.
Activists told the Cairo-based al-Akhbar daily that at least 90 Iraqi teenagers with emo appearances have been stoned to death by the Moral Police in the country in the past month. The violent crackdown against emo Iraqi teenagers came after the Iraqi interior ministry declared them as devil worshippers.
The Emo phenomenon or devil worshiping is being probed by the Moral Police who have the approval to eliminate it as soon as possible since its detrimentally affecting the society and becoming a danger, a statement by the Interior Ministry said.
They wear strange, tight clothes that have pictures on them such as skulls and use stationery that are shaped as skulls. They also wear rings on their noses and tongues, and do other strange activities, the statement added.
The statement said that Iraqs Moral Police was granted approval by the Ministry of Education to enter Baghdad schools and pinpoint students with Western appearances.
The activists told the newspaper that a group of armed men dressed in civilian clothing led the teenagers to secluded areas a few days ago, stoned them to death, and then disposed their bodies in garbage dumpsters across the capital, Baghdad.
First they throw concrete blocks at the boys arms, then at his legs, then the final blow is to his head, and if he is not dead by then, they start all over again, one person who managed to escape told the daily. The exact death toll remains unclear, but Hana al-Bayaty of Brussels Tribunal, an NGO dealing with Iraqi issues, said the current figure ranges between 90 and 100.
Activists said that leaflets were distributed in Baghdad warning teenagers from donning the emo style, and in some regions, teenage homosexuals were killed by battering their heads also by concrete blocks.
>>>>>>>>I am sorry to have spilled American blood to liberate these savages. In hindsight, Saddam kept the savages in check.
Bingo! Guys like Saddam are best leaders in a places like that.
Not only he kept the snakes in a pot, he also managed savages into middle income-middle class lifestyles at the time.
So did Qadaffi to Lybians. I remember a Lybian former military rebel supporter who was complaining to French reporter about his $20,000 pension gone. What an idiot. He was fighting for this future. In Afghanistan which is their dream model not even a city worth $20,000. A hundred bucks hidden in a basement makes one a Forbes’ top in a neighbourhood.
“Maaa-aaa! You say we should also be screwing camels and goats?”
“... what on earth is an emo?”
I have a teen (NOT emo) and I asked him the same question. From my understanding, it stands for emotionally distraught/disturbed. They wear black because life sucks. They listen to emo music which is about how difficult life is and that it sucks. Essentially, they are teens that that choose this type of image since they don’t fit into the jock/brain/popular crowd. Lots of black make-up, dye for their hair, black clothing that represents a living death. (now... aren’t you glad you asked?!) Mom
I have thought so for a while. Same thing with the Afghans.
It’s a kind of caricature that started, I believe, with Japanese cartoons. Only then did these absurd real life hairdos follow.
I’d still sooner unexpectedly meet a group of emo’s than a similar sized group of unknown Moose.
Strangely, I never feel left out not being on the bleeding edge of new culture trends........
That may be extreme, but I support the penalty for terrorizing the public with 130db thump noises while riding their camels...
So they are gloomy and depressed. I’d sooner meet them than folks who are forever in a towering rage.
It’s an emo thing to carry boom boxes blaring out death metal music atop camels? Who gnu?
I don’t know what was extreme about the comment. The reference ot homosexuality was there, and it would hardly be surprising if the reporter was suppressing an important element of what is going on.
Pretty soon they’ll have huge round eyes.
Emo is homo?”
Perhaps ;-) But my point was that it seems quite likely that the reporter wasn’t giving the straight story on this ;-)
The religion of peace at work. They’re all savages.
Yes, but impulse control isn’t there in the Middle East and Africa.
I agree. They essentially are the “weird” kids. They really don’t bother anyone (at least at my son’s school). They normally socialize only with each other. I guess at that age, everyone wants to belong to some sort of “group”. If they don’t fit in the others, they can dye their hair, get a black wardrobe and “fit” in with the emo group. (thank goodness we are beyond THOSE years!!)
It’s like The Cure and Flock of Seagulls had a child.
I know, teens are difficult to pin down on their types and definitions for each other.
I'm still using words like "barf" and "gag me" shows you how far behind the "scene" I am and I only recently learned what a "skank" was, sheesh.
These dead kids apparently rejected islam for ‘something else’ and that is a threat to the tyrants. This is a ‘teaching moment’ on population control.
Better to be neighbors to a conscientious atheist than a devout mohammedan. The atheist can always change his mind. The mohammedan can only get worse.
God help us is we ever get one in a position of power/s.
