Every so often, a story comes along that is so outrageous, all one can do to soothe the rage is to laugh. And shed a tear. Thats the case in Buffalo, New York.
There for years teachers in the government education system have enjoyed free plastic surgery procedures, courtesy of taxpayers. Teachers dont pay a dime and the entire cost is borne by the school district. So a school district that recently announced it is operating with a $42 million deficit paid $5.9 million last year for teachers to get boob jobs, tummy tucks and facelifts.
Im sure the union just wants its members looking their best for the kids. How thoughtful. But the Buffalo school district has a graduation rate below 50 percent. What a shame there are fewer students to see the gussied-up teaching staff. It makes the $5.9 million the school district spent on plastic surgery last year an even bigger jaw-dropper. Could those dollars have been put into programs designed to keep more kids in school?
There are two reasons this continues to happen: school leaders are too weak to do anything about outrageous expenses written into teachers union collective bargaining agreements. They apparently refuse to take a moral stand and at least give the appearance of trying to end the financial drain. They just continue paying the bill.
They should display some backbone, force a confrontation with the union over this outrageous expense, and force a judge to order the school district to pay for the surgeries. That will help the public better understand how unions siphon millions of crucial dollars from school budgets.
The second reason is known as an evergreen clause, which is a provision in many teachers union contracts which states the terms of an expired contract remain in effect until a new contract is approved. Buffalos contract has been expired for 6 years. But fearing concessions like no more free skin peels the union drags its feet and wont agree on a new deal. The deck is stacked against the taxpayers and politicians arent doing anything about it.
Remember this example the next time you hear President Obama or other politicians say we need to invest more in education. Remember this when your local school board is pleading with you to increase your taxes to avoid layoffs or pay for necessary technology upgrades. This is the sort of outrageous crap your taxes are funding.
On the other hand, as we hear about sagging teacher morale, perhaps schools can give some thought to perking up teachers spirit by paying for a little plastic surgery. Since Buffalo Public Schools and many like it are a public works project for adults anyway, why not make the population a little more youthful? Randi Weingarten, what say you?
It’s for the children.
I am working for the wrong school system!
“Its for the children”.
I’ll just bet it is./s
They just continue paying the bill.
It isn’t school leaders that are paying the bill!
Why not go all the way and put a pole in every classroom? Surely all the dads will turn out for back-to-school night. Ruh roh, did I just insinuate that Buffalo teachers are sluts?
following the Dems “War on Women” strategy to its logical conclusion, I expect Kathleen Sebelius will declare this stuff to be free for all women by sometime in August.
How else will they entice the students to have sex with them......../s/
How else will they entice the students to have sex with them?
Under the circumstances I find it hard, no pun intended, not to believe your suggestion.
You can't make this stuff up!

Thanks for this thread.
This is an excellent example of why Labor Unions should be banned for workers whose income, whole or in part, are paid for by revenue generated by taxation of any kind.
Bookmarked for leisure reading by Free Lunch Democrat lurkers.
Next time a liberal defends unions, ask this:
What is the purpose of a labor union?
If it is to ensure good wages, doesn't the gov't set a minimum wage and also establish median incomes for various occupations?
If it is to ensure good working conditions, doesn't the gov't set workplace standards and inspections via OSHA?
If gov't already protects workers through regulations, why do we need unions?
” - - - If gov’t already protects workers through regulations, why do we need unions?”
Excellent analysis! Well said!
BTW, doesn’t the former foreign student from Haaavuuud Law School use Labor Union thugs as his goon squad to enforce his Free Lunch Democrat ideas?
BTW, BTW, maybe Labor Unions can survive without Free Lunch Democrats, but Free Lunch Democrats can never survive without Labor Unions?
In case anyone hasn’t guessed, the rats control most of everything in Buffalo.
Buffalo Sluts wontcha come out tonight
And dance on the gold plated pole.
LOL!

Ironic, isnt it Smithers? This anonymous clan of slack-jawed troglodytes has cost me the election, and yet if I were to have them killed, I would be the one to go to jail. Thats democracy for you. Mr. Burns
Is this bennie only available to the teachers? How many other unions have the same clause...may I offer school secretaries, school security officers, custodians, cops, firemen...dunno frequently bennies are offered across the spectrum.
Considering the epidemic of teachers sleeping/having affairs with students, is it a good idea to pay to make them to look hot-hot-hot?
Someone with the BofE should be on the hot seat for negotiating this clause. Spread the blame around fairly, IMHO.
I'll tell you what "ought" to be put in every classroom......a camera. Actually two cameras, one in the back of the room looking to the front, and one at the front looking to the rear. Connect'em both to the internet. You can bet that both bad teaching and bad behavior by the kids would drop drastically if they knew that the parents "might" be watching. Same kind of deterrent value as "concealed carry" with firearms.
That would be a wonderful idea on a closed network but perv heaven if made generally available.
