Canadian prog rockers Rush share their name with a certain right-wing American radio personality, but that doesn't mean they share his values.
After learning that Rush Limbaugh had used its song 'The Spirit of the Radio' during his recent rant against Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke -- a woman he called a "slut" and "prostitute" for supporting mandated coverage of contraceptives -- the band filed a cease and desist letter, asking the DJ to lay off their music, TMZ reports.
"The public performance of Rush's music is not licensed for political purposes and any such use is in breach of public performance licenses and constitutes copyright infringement," reads the statement.
"Accordingly, we hereby demand that you immediately stop all use of Rush's music and confirm that you will do so," the letter continues.

When Rush played Clarence “Frogman” Henry for the Homeless Update, it gave the singer a whole new career, which made the Frogman very happy during his remaining years.
Some people (Rush, the band) can’t recognize a gift.
If they haven't had a problem with it up til now, I think it was a premptive strike against the left, who might give the band a hard time for 'allowing' Rush Limbaugh to use their song. As we all know, if the license is purchased, there can be fair use made of parts of songs, but the libs want to make a stink to keep the issue front and center.

I hope you are right. They have always seemed to be above the fray.
This is a copy of an email I sent to the only RUSH email contact I could find:

To RUSH band,
Decisions have consequences. You choose to not have Rush Limbaugh play your music and I choose to not spend my money on you. This whole issue is a contrived distraction by the leftists in the country and you follow. That is too bad. I always thought your band kept its nose out of our politics.
Rush Limbaugh is bigger than you. He is admired and loved. Believe me, another artist will benefit from the most listened to three hours on the radio. You lost.
From what I saw, a Leftist blogger named Bob Cesca on the Huff Toast contacted their management and said “did you know your music is being played by Rush Limbaugh.” He wrote about it.
