"Outrage" Over Limbaugh - What About Left-Wing Misogyny?
Townhall.com ^ | March 8, 2012 | Larry Elder

"A firestorm of outrage from women after a crude tirade from Rush Limbaugh," said NBC anchor Brian Williams. This was followed by a reporter who said: "In 2012, the personal is political. What began as a debate over religious freedom has devolved into what some call a 'war on women.'"

The "outrage" over Rush Limbaugh's "misogyny" provides the latest examples of the liberal vs. conservative double standard and the selective indignation of the left. Limbaugh criticized the congressional appearance of Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown law student who supported requiring even religiously affiliated institutions to provide "free" contraceptives.

"So, Ms. Fluke, and the rest of you femi-Nazis," Limbaugh said, "here's the deal: If we are going to pay for your contraceptives and, thus, pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. And I'll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch." Limbaugh also called her a woman who admits she gets "paid" for sex -- something that, according to Limbaugh, makes her a "slut" and a "prostitute."

He apologized, but reportedly has lost sponsors. Fluke refused to accept his apology. "I don't think that a statement like this issued, saying that his choice of words was not the best, changes anything," Fluke said. "And especially when that statement is issued when he's under significant pressure from his sponsors who have begun to pull their support."

The "firestorm" over Limbaugh's "sexism" would be convincing -- were it not for its selective nature. Where's the outrage when the misogyny comes from the left?

Ed Schultz, for example, the blowtorch left-wing MSNBC host, called conservative radio show host Laura Ingraham a "right-wing slut" and a "talk slut." Isn't the "s" word -- aside from the "c" word -- the worst anti-woman slur a man can make? But if Schultz suffered a loss of advertisers, we never heard about it. No activists pumped out press releases arguing that a man who calls a woman a "slut" because of her political conservatism maligns all conservative woman. His punishment? One week's suspension without pay.

The sexism police long ago exempted Bill Clinton from any conversation about ill-treatment of women. Some of the same people who condemn Limbaugh for his treatment of Fluke go deaf, dumb and blind over Clinton's treatment of and statements about the women who dared confront him.

Juanita Broaddrick, in 1999, appeared on "Dateline NBC" -- after the broadcast was repeatedly delayed -- and accused Bill Clinton of rape. Repeat, NBC aired an interview with a woman who accused Clinton, the Arkansas attorney general at the time, of not sexual harassment, not sexual assault but rape. But a recent PBS special, touted as a tough, warts-and-all documentary, failed to include any reference whatsoever to the rape allegation in four hours of programming. To date, only one national reporter, Sam Donaldson, even asked a question about it.

When Gennifer Flowers went public with their affair, Clinton surrogates called her a liar, dismissing her as a "saloon singer." Clinton denied it, only to admit it after years of insisting she lied. Surrogates called Monica Lewinsky "delusional" before Clinton admitted their affair, and that he lied about it under oath and to the nation.

Paula Jones, who alleged Clinton committed sexual harassment, was denounced by top aide James Carville: "Drag a hundred-dollar bill through a trailer park, you never know what you'll find." Clinton later paid Jones $850,000 to settle the sexual harassment lawsuit that Clinton had insisted lacked merit. Clinton also accused attorney Dolly Kyle Browning of lying when she claimed she'd had a long-standing affair with him.

Kathleen Willey, a former Clinton campaign aide, appeared on "60 Minutes" and accused Clinton of taking her hand and placing it on his genitalia. Incredibly, feminist attorney Gloria Steinem said even if one assumes Willey told the truth, Clinton's actions do not constitute sexual harassment because he stopped when Willey complained. "In other words," wrote Steinem, "President Clinton took 'no' for an answer."

After Limbaugh's comments, reporters rushed to ask House Speaker John Boehner to react. Did anyone bother asking Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to react to less-than-female-friendly comments made by talk-show host Bill Maher?

Maher, of HBO's "Real Time," recently announced a $1 million donation to a pro-Obama super PAC. Maher's wealth, in addition to his show's platform, makes Maher a pretty substantial person of influence in the Democratic Party. Yet Maher, on more than one occasion, referred to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin by the "c" word, called her a "dumb 't'-word" (think "twit" with a different vowel), and has called Palin and Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., "bimbos." Kirsten Powers, a former Democratic strategist, wrote: "(Maher) recently made a joke about Rick Santorum's wife using a vibrator. Imagine now the same joke during the 2008 primary with Michelle Obama's name in it, and tell me that he would still have a job."

We don't need to tell you. He wouldn't.

Bob Beckel tried to warn ‘em. “Accept Rush’s apology and move on.” He knew how very, very vulnerable Libs are on this issue.

What Rush said about Ms. Fluke was a bit over the top, but pales in comparison to the vile language used against Sarah Palin and her family especially in the 2008 campaign. Nothing was said when the left media called her daughter Bristol a slut or denigrated her for having a child out of wedlock or insinuated that Palin’s handicapped son was her daughters. Michelle Bachman was routinely referred to as an idiot and a bigot, yet nothing is said. If anything this incident with Rush just shows the utter hypocrisy in the MSM.

I was very dissappointed in Ann Coulters column this week. You would think she would have written about all this, defended Rush, but once again for the billionth time she goes off on another rant about her liberal God, Mittens Romney. The woman is gone. Very sad. I guess mental illness can strike anyone at anytime.

Proof that, as always, it’s not the issue that their squawking about that is their real issue.

“Misogyny” is not the issue. Advancing power and growing government IS the issue. Squashing conservative viewpoints IS the issue.

“Misogyny”, like “racism”, is just a means to that end.

According to the Democrat’s sacred FAIRNESS DOCTRINE, the lowest common denominator determines the basic ethical, and moral standard for online manners on radio, TV and public speech.

Hence, from stage left, let all of us reconcile all public speech to the standards set by Howard Stern, John Stewart, and Bill Maher.

On that basis Rush’s comments not only were accurate, but well above the public speech standard set by Stern, Stewart and Mayer.

What is “Fair” about that?

Rush has won this whole argument and probably knew it right away. Rush is all powerful. He will keep bringing up examples of the foul mouths of the left over the next month until the left demands he stop! Enough is enough they will say. This will expose that SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS.

No one mentions the fact that Obama called the Tea Party ‘teabaggers’!

That was far more worse than what Rush said. Why is he off limits?

Well Bill Maher is certainly out there defending Rush as often and as nervously as he can. He probably fears a mob of conservative female protesters showing up at his Huntsville fundraiser.

His handlers will just claim he was too stupid to know what a teabagger is.

And, they would be correct...about him being "too stupid".

Excellent, excellent! This is a very good point!!

No one Ever calls the liberals on THEIR misogynism.

They are allowed to do all that, and rush was making a sincere political point. What was the point of calling Paula jones a piece of crap from a trailer park? Was there a deep political message?? Nope, just a dishonest, cruel defense of clinton’s boorish behavior.

What was the good political point behind Maher calling palin those words? He didn’t agree with her politics? Hmm.

They get away with it all.

Most people tend to dismiss Beckel as an unhinged lib. But there is an advantage to watching him on shows like The Five. It took me a few shows but I realized that he doesn’t necessarily believe a lot of what he says, rather in his responses to the four conservatives on the show, think of him as the Devil’s advocate. No matter what the criticism of the President or the the left, he has a ready response. That is because he is a political strategist. He is laying out the strategy for the Democrat responses to Republican talking points. He is an invaluable insight into the mind of the left and how they will respond.

The lesson also to be learned from listening to him is that when it comes to politics, he is a no-holds barred, dirty S.O.B. and he is proud of that and will lie and deny to your face to get his “client” elected. I watched him on one recent show boast about making calls on behalf of his client’s opponent over and over all night long until 3 or 4am on the morning of the election. He laughed about how the voters were so tired of the late night calls that they voted for Beckel’s guy. It’s his business. It’s his job. That is what he does to earn a living.

Unfortunately for us, the “elite” Republicans STILL think it’s all just a game.

Whoa, excellent point!!!

I’m going to use this today in my defense of rush. I was furious that our president called my little kids and elderly mother “testicle suckers.”.

Obama was not trying to satirically make a point. My good, decent loved one’s, because they attended protest rallies, were called cruel sexual terms.

"Juanita Broaddrick, in 1999, appeared on "Dateline NBC" -- after the broadcast was repeatedly delayed -- and accused Bill Clinton of rape."

I recall Lisa Myers, in response to the delayed airing, told Ms. Broderick that the good news was that her bosses found her to be credible. But the bad news was that they found her to be very credible.

The left’s fake moral outrage over this is disgusting. It has been enough to motivate me to vote for Romney if he is the eventual nominee. I am so sick of their ‘rules for thee, but not for me’ attitude. The mainstream media is absolutely and totally corrupt. They are nothing more Democrat propagandists calling themselves independent reporters.
