The labor market is "healing"? What an oddly fuzzy bit of personification!

In other news, gas prices gave me a reach-around the other day.

If MSDNC is talking about government jobs, they the last half is probably technically correct.

The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits rose last week, a government report showed on Thursday, but not enough to change perceptions that the labor market was strengthening.

Isn’t that the equivalent of saying a girl is just a little bit pregnant? (i.e. makes no sense to the point of being untrue?

Duncan Hunter on FOX saying, if you factor in everything, the real unemployment number is 10%. He proposing a bill to get the ‘real numbers’ with the people that have given up looking for work factored in. Also, he said there are many people who have gone from their long term good job with good pay, etc, who were laid off and are now working part time just to survive. How do you factor them in? What a mess with this anti-capitalist, anti-small business potus. November 6, 2012 America!

Yea, that's the ticket. Unemployment rises but things are just rosy.

but not enough to change perceptions that the labor market was strengthening........................................... Sure! The talking points from the “Ministry of Propaganda”. We need a radio station that has a clock ticking tick tock and a voice over saying: “Every 7 seconds, another American is out of work.”.

Somehow this story from MSNBC reminds me of an old spoof TV ad from MADtv that touted the preposterous advertising claim of “Spishak Cholestra - 10% less anal leakage”.

The Obama Administration is bringing us new jobless claims that feature “10% less anal leakage”, and laughably, MSNBC wants us all to know that despite what you think, that little inconvenient factoid means that the outlook for the economy is bright and getting better all the time (all hail the mighty Obama).

Memorandum for the Record

From: Ministry of Truth
To: Lowly Unwashed Masses of New America

Subject: Directed Thought of the Day

As ordered, you are directed to believe the employment situation in New America is continuing to improve, regardless of reports surfacing today that may indicate otherwise.

You are further directed to maintain a countenance of happiness, euphoria and total faith in the benevolent leadership and guidance of The One and His assigns.

Noncompliance with these orders are regarded as crimes against the State and are tantamount to directly offending The One, resulting in swift, natural-cause action against you.

That is all. Proceed with approved activities until promulgation of further direction.

Here is another example of the media worshiping Zero.

Yahoo.com today has the headline: "Stock Rally Helps Regain Wealth Lost in Recession"

Sounds good. On March 1, 2011 the Dow was at $12,213. On March 8, 2012 one hour before closing the Dow is at $12,927. My high school math tells me that is about 5.8% increase for one year. (12927 - 12213)/12213 BFD. My tax load has gone up more than that and I am not even looking at gas and food price inflation.

On October 8, 2007 the Dow hit $14,097. Again my math tells me we are still DOWN 14%. (14097 - 12927) / 14097 Some recovery.

If Bush had 11,000 more jobless claims than expected, would the press line be "the labor market was strengthening?"

In Sept. 2004, we got this: "the economy has still lost about 1 million jobs since Bush took office in early 2001, meaning Bush is likely to become the first president since the Depression era's Herbert Hoover to complete his term with an overall drop in U.S. payrolls."

Unemployment had just dropped to disastrous 5.4%.
