A protest is planned Thursday in front of a Lincoln radio station to call for the removal of talk radio host Rush Limbaugh from the airwaves. The conservative talk show host is losing advertisers and being targeted after calling a law school student a “slut” and “prostitute” for advocating for insurance coverage of contraceptives. “Occupy Rush Limbaugh on International Women’s Day” is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday at KLIN, 4343 O St. The protest is being sponsored by Occupy Lincoln, which has a tent camp on the mall in front of the state capitol in Lincoln. Susan Watson, who is active with Occupy Lincoln, said the general assembly endorsed the protest of what she called Limbaugh’s “horrific” comments a week ago. She thinks KLIN should take him off the air. “He might be cancelled before we even get there,” Watson said in an interview. “It’s truly offensive, what he said. It’s offensive that someone would continue to carry a person who carries hate speech. He’s picked a fight with all women.” KLIN Program Director John Bishop said Limbaugh will stay on the air, however. “He apologized for the comments, which were rude and wrong. My philosophy is that the free market has always made programming decisions. Rush is our best, most consistent performing show since I’ve been here. When the free market says he is no longer desired, then we will look to replace him. Is there a line that can be crossed? Yes. But I don’t believe it was crossed here especially considering others who have done as bad or worse with no consequences. If he had not apologized, it would have made the decision more difficult, but I am a free speech, free market guy and that market will have its say. It always does.”

This keeps getting repeated and it's just plain false (it may have begun with an AP story). He called her a slut because she said contraceptives are bankrupting her. He called her a prostitute because she wants others to make payments so she can continue having sex.

This is the second time today that a woman has said that she speaks for _all_ women, or implied it. The other one was Heather Mallick talking about Paul Gomille. Extremely irritating & annoying.
No, Rush Limbaugh did NOT pick any fight with me. And who started all this, anyway? One can’t really even say that Ms. Fluke started it; it was the folks who decided to be overly harsh on the Catholics, to begin with. They started it. Rush didn’t pick a fight, he just fought back against the tyranny and absurdity.
The very same way the leftist bastards distorted assaults on Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Conscience into “Republicans Hate Women.” They get away with it all the time and nobody calls them to account. Drives us all nuts.

Slater was that cranky flight attendant a couple years back who announced to the passengers on a Jet Blue flight that he was quitting over an incident with one of them and then activated the emergency slide to exit the plane just outside the terminal.

Any advertising is good advertising and this will be great advertising...in Lincoln. Lincoln is less than “fly over country”.
What more needs to be said. In the era of Satellite Radio, Broadband Access, and Podcasts, radio stations need to hang on to every listener. Rush has generally helped the radio business - broadband access is by fee for 24/7 and he hasn't gone satellite.
Ditching Rush will hurt them much more than Rush, and they all know it.
I sure hope that there is a mammoth counter protest.

At this rally someone ought to ask the hosers why they don’t just turn off their radios or change the dial?
