Rick Santorum's campaign is calling on conservatives to pressure Newt Gingrich to abandon his bid for the White House, a senior adviser told reporters tonight.
Senior campaign strategist John Brabender said the key for the campaign going forward will be creating an opportunity to challenge Mitt Romney one-on-one, though Brabender maintained the Santorum campaign would not directly call on Gingrich to drop out of the race.
"We're never going to call on anybody to get out, but what we are calling is on Tea Party supporters and conservatives is to rally behind the only candidate that has demonstrated over and over again that he's the one who can compete against Mitt Romney," Brabender said.
"The real key right now is, can we get an opportunity to get a one-on-one shot with Mitt Romney," he said.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SAnTORUM HURTS, DOESN’T IT?
He is dishonest, a liar and a corrupt politician.
He must drop out and let the adults slug it out.
Never shoot the messenger just because you don’t like the truth in the message or its source.
Numerous times I’ve been first with breaking news only to have admin mods pull it - then two days later, when it is posted by someone else, the information is acceptable.
Fact is, Santorum is a liar, dishonest, and a corrupt politician.
“Youre certainly entitled to your opinion and I can appreciate your passion, but I dont see how leveling incendiary insults against Santorum and his supporters are going to win any new converts over to your side. Just sayin.”
I learned a long time ago that with some folks, you just can’t fix stupid, so I quit trying. If my posts bother you, ignore them. You will not quiet me.
No sale....
** President Newt Gingrich-”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
And you base this on what evidence exactly??? Looking at the daily Rasmussen tracking polls and Real Clear Politics polling averages, Santorum currently fares statistically NO WORSE against Obama than Romney and FAR BETTER than Gingrich.
Polls, polls, polls. Polls are glimpses into that particular moment. If you think Rick has any shot at beating Obama + the Obama media you are crazy. Rick had a lead in Michigan. He had a poor debate, but what really really hurt was the Obama media pile on about “Satan”, “birth control”, “separation of church and state” etc.
Don’t say “Yeah but they misrepresented his views” or something to that effect. Of course they did to an extent! Exactly what they’ll do if he faces Obama. They’ll take his words out of context, brand him an extremist, completely control the narrative (forget about the economy etc. let’s talk about contraception!), and Rick will go down hard.
Hear, hear....
And, those "conservatives" (actually libertarians that have disdain for social conservatism and Christianity) that either openly or secretly would prefer Romney over Santorum.
I’m not trying to silence you, so let’s stop trying to invent straw men, ok? If you want to keep wasting your time and energy continuing to post inflammatory and charmless rants about Rick Santorum that will change nobody’s mind, then by all means knock yourself out.
And, those “conservatives” (actually libertarians that have disdain for social conservatism and Christianity) that either openly or secretly would prefer Romney over Santorum.
Thanks, but I prefer none of the above. I’ll stand by what I believe rather than vote for either big government candidate. Big government is big government. It matters little who is in charge.
Santorum has clearly got the geography covered and the broadbased support. His percentages were in the double-digits everywhere yesterday—Newt’s were not. Newt has a lot of positive aspects, but he is not winning the broad support that Santorum has. Romney must be stopped. We must unite.
LOL@you.
“How sad is it that your candidate is getting beat bad by Rick.”
Wake up and get a grip.
That’s nothing compared to how bad Rick will get beat by 0, if he should make it that far.
There is only one person of the four that can tear 0 a new one, mano-a-mano, and walk away fairly unscathed.
Hint... hint... his name has four letters, begins with an N, and it ain’t NOOB.
NBC News has O + 17 vs Newt, in their recent polls.

He’s done, Jim.
“But there is one and only person who is to blame if Romney clinches the nomination, and this is spoiler Gngrich. With his broad gender gap, especially among working women and his sky-high unfavorability ratings, moreso with independents, hes electorally utterly and totally unelectable. This is the view of a broad swath of conservative analysts as well. Weeks ago before MI, we wish he had taken the advice of columnists at the American Spectator, National Review, and Weekly Standard that he bow out with grace. What a difference it would have made in states like WA, MI, and OH. Le Resistance would have triumphed and Romney would have been out.”
Blah, blah, blah. Yep... blame it all on Newt. In all honesty, has there been any major outlets supporting this man since day one? Nope... don’t think so. But practically “everyone who is anyone” have done nothing but castigate him since the beginning of this debacle of a primary.
It’s been one damn thing after another. From lies and innuendo to the outright theft of delegates. Frankly, I’m surprised he is still standing. This “piling on” from all sides reminds me of another prominent individual that was and still is in some respects shamelessly treated more or less the same way. It’s painfully obvious that “the powers that be” want to impose on the populace 0-Lite. Barring that then I’m afraid “they” would be perfectly happy for the populace to suffer another four of 0.
“Its not to late to take this advice. He must go and go now!”
The “he” you are referring to must surely be Lil Ricky as “he” does not stand a snowballs’ chance in hell in beating 0 in not only a debate or two but in the general. As plain as the nose on your face, Lil Ricky simply does not possess the moxie to pull it off. Only one of the four can go mano-a-mano against 0 and come out relatively unscathed. So.... Santorum should give it up and throw his full support behind Newt if we are going to stand a chance of turning this country around and getting it back on track.
Considering the flak Newt is taking from all sides, this does nothing more than reinforce my belief that he is not only over the target but that the establishment is crapping their pants over little ole Newt. Wonder why is that?
“NBC News has O + 17 vs Newt, in their recent polls.”
Mainstream... what do you expect?
Positive news... sheesh
Good thing I don’t live my life based on a poll, else I’d a been done a long time ago, Jim.
Thank you...
But you haven’t offered a single credible and realistic reason on how Gingrich could possible win the nomination. He’s now a destructive force because he is an enabler- allowing Romney to clinch the nomination.
What sort of consequences would that decision have if Santorum were the nominee and lost to Obama? Will the second amendment be limited to militia groups with a couple more Obama Supreme Court nominees? Will gay marriage be forced on all 50 states?
Santorum is a dishonest man. My file on him is now 27 pages long and most of it derived from newspapers in Pennsylvania.
Trash? I think not. Embrassing for Santoristas? You betcha’.
I can’t figure it out unless Newt is going for scorched earth. Pretty sad if that’s his goal.
Even Sarah couldn’t revive the corpse this time.
I was speaking to the matter at hand. I prefer Gingrich to Santorum or Romney. Of course I would get behind Rick over Obama. That won’t happen though.
