Authorities in California say a 33-year-old San Diego County woman has been killed by a cannonball fired by her husband and another man.
U-T San Diego (http://bit.ly/xllWgA ) reports the woman was found dead at about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday after the ball slammed into her home at the Twin Lakes Resort mobile home park in Potrero, a tiny community near the Mexican border.
Her name hasn't been released.

It’s the normal progression from cherry bombs.

True, I watched a kid on youtube make a cherry bomb, poor kid has never seen a real cherry bomb. Those things would tear a mail box completely apart.

Embarassed to admit that my buddies and I once looked at an oxygen bottle on an oxy/acetylene cutting/welding torch cart and figured out that it was about the same diameter as a bowling ball.
You know the rest of the story - worked very well for about 30 rounds, then turned itself and the bowling ball projectile into shrapnel.
A few years after that, we took up launching anvils. You see, they all have a hole in the bottom to accomodate removal of the mold.
You get two similar makes, models and weights, bury one upside-down, fill the hole with black powder or Pyrodex, put the other on top, base-to-base, with a little bit of cannon fuse extending from inside the charge to the outside of the anvils. Light the fuse and the fun ensues.
Anyone who hasn't seen an anvil tumble around 300' into the air and then fall to the ground hasn't lived.
Our successors to this sort of nonsense are the pumpkin chunkers, who build these fabulous sophisticated machines that can launch a pumpkin out of sight.
Boys and their toys, the insanity continues.

True, I watched a kid on youtube make a cherry bomb, poor kid has never seen a real cherry bomb. Those things would tear a mail box completely apart. Back in the day (1940s) when you could buy the real thing, it was fun. A neighbor kid and I would dig tunnels in the side of a small hill with cherry bombs.

Loved those things, we could get them up to the seventies in Tennessee.

Things were a lot simpler then.

Oh, look. I’m not saying it’s not stupid. I’m just saying it’s not funny. Stupid that kills people that kills wives, mothers, daughters, friends isn’t funny. That’s all.

Most cannons are built in such a way that they point “in an unsafe direction” 24/7.
