Rush Limbaugh has posted a statement on his website this afternoon, forwarded by his brother David (one of my friends on line), apologizing for calling Sandra Fluke an insulting name while discussing her claims. It’s impossible to retain the context of his apology by excerpting it, so I hope Rush will not mind me posting it in its entirety:
For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.
I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.
My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.
I think Rush did the right thing in apologizing to Fluke. However, let’s keep in mind that it was Fluke who made her sexual activity a matter of national political debate by insisting that the government pass laws and regulations forcing employers and insurers to provide her free contraception, and apparently as much as she and others demand. It’s Republicans who believe that contraception should remain a private affair, and that employers and insurers should be free to decide whether to cover contraception for their employees and customers or not. Democrats used Fluke to demand that those choices be stripped from private enterprises and instead be forced by the executive branch to entirely subsidize contraception.
That is the argument we should be making, as Republicans and conservatives. If you want your sexual choices to remain private, don’t use the government to force other people to subsidize them. Then we won’t have to turn the sex lives of Georgetown law school students into topics for political speculation.
Update: Along those same lines, does Donna Brazile also now oppose the government mandate to force employers and insurers to have a role in the decision to use contraception? She tweeted this message not too long ago (via Keder):
Agree! The government should have no role in contraception, and shouldn’t force employers or insurers to have a role in it, either. Keep it between the woman, her sexual partner, and her doctor. Well said.
Oh, wait, Brazile meant this in support of the mandate? She seems just as badly misinformed on the issue as her media colleagues … or as deliberately obtuse.
A true conservative listens to Rush to educate...not as a daily bread.
I was a liberal back then and listened to Rush. I was CONVERTED and listening to him everyday was like preaching to the choir.
You get it or you don’t. Have not listened to Rush for an entire hour for the past 10 years because I get conservatism and right-wing-ism (if that’s the word)
Does anybody really, sincerely think these sponsors are coming back???? The libs are in for the kill. Even with this lame-azz apology, any sponsor that has already quit will be attacked like crazy for returning to Limbaugh's show. Plus now he has betrayed millions of his listeners. Limbaugh is finished. Rush said nothing wrong in his original statement, and should have stood is ground. Now he is a pansy in the dust.
I repeat myself, since you obviously did not read the thread:
Rush was the main voice that ridiculed the left, and kept the pansy-assed Republicans from straying into pansy-assed territory. Today, he surrendered his left and right testicle, plus at lest three inches of what was left. Now he is forever neutered. The left has proven that he can be bought, can be checked, can be neutralized.
The winners are the evil left, and the Republican elite. Permission has been given to nominal Republican candidates to tack hard left, since they no longer have to worry about Rush, or any other voice from the right.
We are screwed. The country is screwed.
Do you get it now?
They are all dead to me.
Hey, Mark Levin! These spineless bastards advertise on your show, too ...
They're Crap.
I will not do business with them.
FYI. FWIW.
I gather from your post that the more courageous course for Rush would be to go down fighting like the 300 Spartans did?
Believe me, nothing ‘stuns’ me anymore during working lunch here in Hollywood. Doing business with liberals and pretending to like them in order to get their business always makes me lose my appetite.
So I order salads. Quick and gives a great excuse to leave the table..
We’re a Hollywood business and we called Carbonite this morning to cancel our business...and intentionally told them we’re going with Mozy and because they dramatize the Rush situation.
In other words, F Carbonite.
This woman demands that we pay for her sexual activities (where she cannot even exercise self control that it would cost her more than $3,000 a year in birth control), and someone who points this out should now apologize?
You describe an apparently sexually active college student, and that alone would not (by my def) make her a "slut".
(Just looking at some online defs, a slut would be a prostitute or one given to numerous one-night-stands. Also, one who has casual sexual relations frequently with different partners; and isn't exactly "choosy").
The fact that she (apparently) chooses to lie about the costs and the circumstances that make her somehow a victim seemingly make her a liar before congress, which, my FRiend, would be a crime.
I would, however, hesitate to call her a "slut" without further knowledge of her social habits (and I'm not the slightest bit interested in those, and nobody should be.)
.
Rush is in business, WE need to fight for Rush!!! Rush needs his
advertisers to bring us his show!!!! I CAN NOT BELIEVE what the heck
I am seeing on this site WHERE is everyone’s backbone??? WE know
how these damn people operate yet we just complain about Rush and

THAT’s what owners of conservative businesses ought to do. Unfortunately, there are not enough conservative businesses who are willing to do this.
Rush is an establishment Republican. Tea Party guy he is not. He is rich and famous and he likes it that way. He wouldn't risk that for any cause.
Rush has always said ...don't worry about the media. You can't do anything about them. They are just a fact of life and besides “I am equal time”. HARDLY! Just a pimple on an elephant's a$$ compared to the networks, left wing cable shows (that includes Faux News), thousands of left wing newspapers and radio stations.
A tremendous disservice to his loyal listeners. Protecting his own empire rather than fight our real enemy, the news media. We cry about Obama getting a pass, double standards, and how morons like Harry Reid (cowboy poetry supporter with your money), Nancy Pelosi (If not for Botox, there would be nothing in her head), keep getting reelected.
It is the POWER of the corrupt press. If we don't change that ..... NOTHING will ever change.
Don't give me back, what about our heroes Rush, Sean, Mark, & Glenn? Did any of them cover Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s news conference? Cowards all.
The 300 Spartans didn't cave on a weekend when 20 million reserves could be there on Monday.
I agree
(Except I have admired him since ‘88 ;>)
Monday should be interesting and I expect nothing but brilliance.
I agree with you: Mark Levin (a true believer if I ever saw one) is not sleeping well tonight. He is a fan of Rush, just like I was. He was betrayed too, just like we were.
This betrayal by Rush is, in my opinion, the biggest set-back we have seen since Obastard won in 2008. The good guys lost tonight.
Why, Judy, should it hurt the right? Rush disarmed the left. He didn't apologize for critizing the hypocrisy and political motivation behind Fluke's long-planned motive for attacking Georgetown's morality-based policies. We've since learned that this was Flukes motive for applying to Georgetown. She wanted to punish them. Her allies want desperately to punish Rush. Rush apologized for his choice of words, something the left never does. Now the whole nation can see the remarkable anger of a disturbed graduate of a comic-book college major in Feminine Studies, native .... She chose a law school in order to straighten them out. She also tells you more about the legal profession than they might want exposed.
Would you, or any of his listeners not listen to him because of what he said? The people most likely to be hurt are his advertisers, because a significant block of the majority of the nation will not subscribe to Carbonite, or go to Sleeptrain. Rush has a larger audience than anyone on radio, and this should not affect that. It may enhance it. And many of his listeners are subscribers, and can circumvent the airwaves - though that is certainly being threatened with control. Many of us have some direct experience with vicious and supercilious feminists, many of whom may wish they had the option to be promiscuous.
The reproductive rights business is an old tool of the angry left, and they are good at using it. Remember Anita Hill. Don't get drawn in. I'll bet Rush's audience is even larger on Monday. The real concern is what the Marxist who loves Chavez on Obama’s FCC board will try to take advantage of what he may see as an opportunity. The ugly language used by the left so often will be avoided by the media, but not the public.
We'll see how Rush's former advertisers fair, having succumb to the Alinsky mob. Any bets on how long Sleeptrain or Carbonite, or Quicken Loans survive, at least without changing their names?
DICTIONARY DEFINITION OF A SLUT: Slut or slattern is a term applied to an individual who is considered to have loose sexual morals or who is sexually promiscuous.
Why would one need more than $3,000 in contraceptives a year if one were not sexually promiscuous?
I’ll leave $150 bucks on the dresser in the morning if she thinks it’ll be helpful
Max:
Come to Texas. We like guys like you here.

RE: I’m not the slightest bit interested in those, and nobody should be
Nobody WAS interested in those until she opened her wide trap and advertised her need to the world.
