Rick Santorum files protest over Michigan delegates
Chicago Tribune ^ | 03/02/12 | Michael A. Memoli

Rick Santorum's campaign is asking for an investigation of what it called the "backroom deal" that resulted in a narrow delegate victory for Mitt Romney in Michigan's Republican primary on Tuesday.

In a letter to the Republican National Committee's legal counsel, the Santorum campaign's chief lawyer claims the Michigan Republican Party improperly awarded both of the at-large delegates to Romney, instead of splitting them between the two candidates.

"It is our understanding that several public supporters and Michigan surrogates of an opposing campaign voted in favor of the delegate allocation change which assisted their chosen candidate," Santorum's general counsel Cleta Mitchell writes. "This request is not about the allocation of a single delegate; it is about ensuring a transparent process, avoiding unscrupulous tactics and backroom deals by establishment figures and campaigns who have not received the result they hoped for at the ballot box."

The GOP is going to investigate but nothing will happen. Its really more important to get some light shined on the Mi GOP (A wholly owned SEIU Subsidiary)

Cox (Mike Cox former Michigan AG) said that according to the MRP rules, Santorum and Romney should each get one of Michigan's two at-large delegates based on their take of the popular vote.

"I supported Mitt, but the vote was clearly wrong," Cox said of the Credentials Committee. "It's kind of like Third World voting. We published rules and then we voted to change the rules."

Exactly. That is the same as the fox guarding the hen house.

A big fight over a single delegate would be pretty damaging but I sure like the idea of shining a bright light on the Michigan GOP.

I’ve never been a fan of Mike Cox but he sure improved my opinion of him by standing up and calling it crap.

Its important that people understand that the only reason team Romney threw a tantrum over Santorum asking democrats to vote for him was the fact that he was intruding on their turf.

santorum lost my support when he slept w/ the devils — leftists — to win against Romney in Michigan. The idea of any means to an end attitude of santorum IS NOT CONSERVATISM and it certainly IS NOT HONORABLE. It’s scurrilous Marxist tactics. No, I don’t believe this guy anymore. He ain’t for real.

I just wish Mr. Santorum would focus on Ohio and let Newt take Georgia. The most important thing is to stop Romney from acquiring delegates.

Actually it was a good preemptive move. The Dems put McCain over in MI in 2008 and stuck us with that old crow. Most exit polls showed the Dems vote was split between Romney and Santorum so don't listen to the spin.

Yeah, Romney won the most liberal areas of the state and Santorum won the rest.

Kinda funny to see Rick Snyder whining about Santorum's dirty tricks when it was crossover's that put him in the governor's mansion.

Even more telling was the fact that he then said he wanted the primary to be kept open despite the "dirty tricks".

Yeah it proved once and for all that Reagan was no conservative when he did it. /s

Wiki actually has a pretty decent explanation of the Reagan Democrats. My only issue is that they’re spread over the state much more evenly now. I know there are lots of conservative union members in the private sector. I know I was a conservative AFL-CIO member.

Michigan explained their decision. And I’m being serious here.

They lost half their delegates for breaking the rules, but decided to appoint ALL their delegates anyway, and then to designate which ones were “voting” vs “non-voting”.

They picked 18 statewide delegates, and assigned 9 to Romney and 9 to Santorum. They simply assigned the FIRST NINE to Romney, and it just happens that the FIRST TWO are the “voting” delegates.

Nobody apparently thinks it would make more sense to assign the voting delegates in round-robin fashion.

They also said they made a “mistake” when they issued a memo a while ago that said they would split the state delegates.

Santorum courted blue collar Dems which was exactly what Reagan did.

It was Romney supporters who made it an open primary to begin with.

BTW, Santorum never had your support:

This one is long but it shows why Newt is indeed what this country needs at this time in its history — a true scholar and historian to remind us what it means to be Americans:

Perhaps this video will change your mind about why Newt would be the most effective President at this time after years of obamanation:

Newt Gingrich speaks at Republican Dinner

*snip*

** I believe after 3 1/2 years of obama pontifications and his control of the bully pulpit, and after decades of neglectfulness of our public education system, we need a real Constitutional scholar and a REAL American historian to take over that pulpit. We need a new master instructor at this time more than we even need a manager, IMO, to remind us all what America is and what it stands for, after these years of assault by the socialist agitator.

It appears that YOU’re the one who’s not real - Newt had your support waaaaaay before the Michigan campaign.

“Spock, I’ve found that evil usually triumphs unless good is very, very careful.” - Leonard McCoy ...

A truism of politics. If Romney or Obama or Paul wins, it’s a win for evil., though generally speaking “good” implies not-as-evil as the other in the case of Santorum or Gingrich. I’m beginning to hope for a brokered convention, and for Sarah Palin to stomp the Rinos, Pubbie elite, and the Bushes. I don’t ask for much.

How fastidious of you! But when going through picking and choosing my posts you liked, perhaps you should have read what I have always been saying about the candidates and the election which boils down to anyone-but-obama first and foremost. Yeah, I was for Newt, and proudly, but that was when I was confident he could win the nomination and he would be best to debate and squash the cocky narcissist under his feet. Alas, it didn’t come to pass so I’ve been open to Santorum. But he did a scurrilous act that made me really mad. How dare he become cohorts of the occupiers and goonionistas who in the long run will NEVER EVER vote for a Republican and are only trying to damage our party and our chances to stop them. I know he wants to win and he has a definite chance, but he should have enough scruples to not do the leftists bidding and be proud of it. That is just screwy to me.

so again, I will go proudly and vote for Santorum if he wins the primaries, but I am disgusted by his leftist tactics sabotage of the primaries. Any means to an end is the ultimate height of hypocrisy for our side.
