ANNAPOLIS — Gov. Martin O'Malley signed the state’s same-sex marriage bill into law Thursday, making Maryland the eighth state along with the District to legalize gay marriage.
Mr. O'Malley, a Democrat, signed the bill during a brief ceremony at the Statehouse which was attended by hundreds of supporters and lawmakers. He was joined by Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. and House Speaker Michael E. Busch, who also put their signatures to the bill.
“All of us at the end of the day want the same thing for our children,” said Mr. O’Malley, who was the legislation’s lead sponsor. “We want them to live in a loving, caring and committed home that is protected equally under the law.”
The bill narrowly passed the House last month with support from Mr. Busch, Anne Arundel Democrat, then easily passed the Senate where Mr. Miller, Prince George’s Democrat, voted against it.
Officials on both sides of the issue have acknowledged it could likely be decided not by the governor, but by a November referendum.
Opponents expect to begin circulating a petition this month in an attempt to suspend the law and send it to a statewide vote. They would need to collect 55,736 valid voter signatures by June 30.

...I’ve known 4 gay couples in my life that have adopted children. All 4 have seperated with 1 going to jail for embezzlement, another dying of AIDS and yet another running off with another gay guy. The kids I met were loners that didn’t get along well with other kids. (I was in Top 40 radio for years, which is full of gays)

I think Lilmarty, Miller and Busch should just marry each other. Why not all-boy harems? No law these people willing to recognize can tell anyone who to love or who they can’t “marry”!
If “marriage” really not based on natural law and protecting the offspring of procreation, then why NOT legal incest, polygamy, or polgany among consenting adults?

This is the way it ordinarily works, though you’d never know it from the “academic” studies that purport to prove gays make great parents. I frankly don’t care whether or not people declare themselves married to fenceposts, but I sure do hate it that this will make it easier for gay couples to adopt other people’s kids.

I believe you. It always pisses me off when they trout out these folks who have been together for decades. Of course the majority of those are women. If I wanted to show a negative reason for real marriage, I could easily trout out Kim Kardashian and some others who didn’t take marriage seriously. That is what I HATE about agendas. They can always be manipulated to fit the agenda.

I think the governor’s about as Catholic as I am.
These folks need to make up their mind. Do they want government staying out of their bedrooms, or marching into their bedrooms with an official seal of approval, paid for with tax dollars? They can’t have it both ways.
