I agree -- conspiracy theories rarely pan out

Can you name a few that come readily to mind; that did not have merit? Think the 'big ones'may remain as theories; but not ever, totally, discounted.

(Can you name any that were proven to be true? And, if not proven true then a theory has no merit beyond the amusement factor)

I’m thinking of the conspiracy theories that the government was responsible for — or at least an active participant in — the Kennedy assassination, the attack on the World Trade Center ... you know ... the stuff George Nori has fun with (although he is entertaining if you can’t sleep!)
