U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey announced that he will run for U.S. Senate in Nebraska.
Seante Update with Sen Jim DeMint - Email | 03/01/2012 | Sen Jim DeMint

Fellow Conservatives:

Yesterday, former Democrat U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey reversed his earlier decision and announced that he will in fact run for the open U.S. Senate seat in Nebraska.

After leaving the Senate in 2001, Kerrey moved to New York City where he even considered running for mayor.

Kerrey's decision to move back to Nebraska to run in this Republican state proves one thing: national Democrats have convinced Kerrey that the Republican front-runner, state Attorney General Jon Bruning, is vulnerable.

Fortunately, Republicans in Nebraska have an alternative. State Treasurer Don Stenberg is a true conservative with the integrity and record needed to win in November.

VIDEO: Watch "Real Deal"

The difference between Don Stenberg and Jon Bruning is significant. Consider the contrast between the two leading Republicans:

Stenberg is the only candidate who has consistently opposed government-run health care

Stenberg is the only candidate who has consistently opposed raising taxes

Stenberg is the only candidate who has consistently opposed Obama's stimulus funds

Stenberg is the only candidate who has consistently opposed earmarks

Stenberg is the only candidate who has consistently supported the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms

Stenberg is the only candidate who has consistently supported parental notification requirements for abortion

Stenberg is the only candidate who has consistently supported term limits for elected officials

Bob Kerrey's entrance into this race makes nominating Don Stenberg even more important. Republicans in Nebraska must nominate a principled leader who can offer voters a true choice in November.

But that won't happen unless freedom-loving Americans like you take a stand now and help fuel Don Stenberg's campaign. The Republican primary election is just over two months away so we must act right now.

Please make a contribution to the Senate Conservatives Fund today to help us run our new television commercial promoting Don Stenberg.

Thank you for your loyal and generous support. Together, we will strengthen the Senate and take America back.

Respectfully,

Jim DeMint United States Senator Chairman, Senate Conservatives Fund

As I recall, he sure helped drag the asssault weapons bill across the finish line. “Here I am, big war hero, we don’t need these big bad guns”.

Just damn..... There’s a pick up that won’t happen....

He reminds me a little of Mark Warner here in my state of VA. He could put together the worst legislative record imaginable, but nearly everyone would still love him, for whatever reason.

Sounds like Kerrey has decided to do what he can to help the Party. Too bad he doesn’t care about the country as much.

According to Bob, Nebraska and New York have a lot in common. Both names start with NE and include r and k. I can represent both Nebraska and New York!

Stenberg is a perennial candidate for various offices in Nebraska, most of which he’s lost. He’s probably a good guy but he’s not a rock star.

The Republican who could walk away with this seat is Gov. Dave Heineman, but so far he’s chosen not to run, and his filing deadline for incumbents has passed, so now his only option would be to resign the Governorship immediately after Kerrey announces so that he can qualify for the non-incumbent deadline.

So with his head-fake by saying he wasn’t interested and then changing his mind, Bob Kerrey very cleverly out-maneuvered the Republicans, who will have to either rely on a weaker candidate, a RINO, or lose a good Governor.

I hope that this is enough. Some dismiss Stenberg as a perennial candidate, but he in most of his election losses, he was massively outspent.
