AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The federal court in San Antonio has ordered Texas to hold its primary elections on May 29, resolving for now one of the biggest issues in the state's redistricting battles.
The three-judge panel issued the election schedule two days after releasing political maps for Texas to use in the 2012 election. Legal disputes over the maps for congressional and House districts have kept Texas from holding elections.
In the primary schedule released Thursday, the filing period for candidates reopens Friday and closes March 9.
While the court order clarifies the election schedule, some minority groups complain that the election maps are unfair and still are seeking changes.

Well, I suppose it could have been worse. June 5th
multiple caucus where voter were lost and one where the wrong winner was declared
multiple states where multiple major candidates didn't qualify for the ballot.
changing nearly every southern state into proportional delegate distribution from there previous winner take all status
making nearly every Mormon heavy state winner take all and then clustering nearly all of them in February.
Texas being moved to near the end by court order
..
Every single one of these things benefited ... ROMNEY.
Our nomination is being manipulated by power hungry insiders, that will do anything to get their butt boy Mitt the nomination.
Well, I suppose it could have been worse. June 5th
Just a tad I guess as by May 29th there will have been 84% of the delegates selected. On June the 5th we’d have been in the group making it up to 95%.
Somehow I think Texans will recognize what Romney is. All the campaigning in the world couldn’t make Ford beat Reagan in Texas...they can spot a bullsh*ter.
Wrong benefitee. The big 0 benefits. You really think they care about Romney, or any other R candidate?
I was being very sarcastic.
No problem. I was just trying to put the election into perspective as to influence we may have had if we could have been much earlier. This has been a strange election it seems to me with no real apparent winner. I never thought a brokered convention may would be in the works but the longer it goes I believe it maybe a distinct possibility.
Texas is Santorum Country!
May 29 does not work. The 2 tyrant judges have ruined the republican convention system. There will not now be time to have any kind of normal precinct conventions (which may be completely eliminated), county convention, and state convention on any kind of rational, doable schedule. But since so few actually participate in our democracy and party system, most conservatives don’t even know they’ve been punked.
Texas is Santorum Country!
I think that remains to be seen when the nut cutting finally takes place. The UT/TT poll did show Rickie out front by a large margin but there are still ups/downs before we vote.

Who is you choice in Texas if it comes down to Rick and Willard?
Well, I think its great (/sarc) that the Texas GOP elites and the incumbents and a few candidates are now taken care of, but where does that leave us??? You know, remember the grassroots???
Being a Precinct Chair in Harris County, I have been wondering what are we supposed to be doing here??? As much information is out there, I for one haven’t heard a damn thing about the process, I see a timeline, but how are we supposed to seriously vett out rabble rousers a week before the state convention???
Who’s idiotic wet dream was this???
What tools are “we” supposed to use to vet out the Ron Paul-bots, ccupoopers and democrats wanting to scrogg our convention business this cycle???
They say the Counties (Senatorial Districts)can “choose” to have a convention...So that means any county or Senatorial district that doesn’t have the money or organization or support for that matter from the state party to conduct a convention at that level is screwed!!!
Forget getting any supprt to hold even a Precinct Cnvention...the building block for all State convention business...
Apparently the fix is in the bag...Texas has already relegated its strong (Crown Jewel) conservative delegation to the back burner...Which is nearly set to off...
My intent is to observe and report back as much info as I can get out of the state party and Harris County as possible...
I think most already see what I see in all of this, but we got to get the information out there for public consumption as soon as possible...
Not sure what we can do about it...And I don’t even know if anyone cares a whip about any of this, for real...
You are correct...But if we are not given the chance to spot the bullsh!tter, then whats the point...
They have gutted our election process in this state for this cycle, obviously the democrats in Texas could give a sh!t...they are happy to see us having problems...And all they had to do is round up the usual vunerables and get them into court to deny the state to adjust lines based upon voting trends, not the color of a persona skin...and nobody called them on it...
And those very people are enabling a specific campaign for a Federal elected position, just one, to eliminate Texas’ ability to be the true conservative litmus test for that job...
It is a win/win for the political opposition and the elite in the Republican party...
I might need the number for a good bail bondsman in Fort Worth this summer...
This is almost like someone gave a lot of people in this state a gallon of Benadryl and said here, drink this, it’ll make you feel better and a bit sleepy...
I never thought I would see this state cave the way it has to a minority political ideology...And then be enabled by the majority party into accepting a liberal within our midst...
I think many conservatives care, and the Texas GOP and the AG Abbott have done the best they can with the cards they have; the biggest problem being the outdated civil rights act which gives the DOJ almost dictatorial power (absent a long appeal process) and gives just about any left-wing group the ability to sue the State.
For good reports on the matter, the Texas GOP has well written updates and information as to why we have to compress the precinct/county conventions:

By the way: our election of delegates to the National Convention (to occur at the State Convention when we have our Congressional district level meetings) is potentially more important than ever. Why? During the first vote for Presidential nominee (at the National Convention), the delegates will be bound to vote for the allocated presidential candidate [to be allocated based on the proportion of the Texas primary vote]; but if the first round of voting does not result in a majority, the Texas delegates will be “unlocked” and free to vote for any of the candidates. Thus, it is important to elect conservative, and reliable, delegates. In our district, we usually elect people who have a long history of active participation with our local R party.
