I'm sorry, but I still don't understand why Obama's mother wrote his name on the application and then crossed it out.

Also, did Obama's mother have to add an explanation to her passport application to explain why Obama's name was listed and then crossed out?

Thanks for any help.

The second paragraph on the passport form states that ‘it should be struck out’. ‘It’ being any one on her passport who is not natural born or other info stated.

Never saw/read that info before today.

In the 60’s, you could list your kids on your passport. If the kid naturalized in a foreign state, then the person’s name should be written on the application and struck out (see declaration printed above the signature of a 1968 passport renewal application).

The person who is struck out files an affidavit and attaches it to the application. An explanation was not provided in the Chris Strunk FOIA response.
