Obama Cabinet Secretary: 'The Private Market is in a Death Spiral' By Fred Lucas February 29, 2012
(CNSNews.com) Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told the House Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday that the days of private health insurance are coming to an end in the United States.
The private market is in a death spiral, Sebelius said, contending this would be the case whether or not President Barack Obama's health care law had been enacted.
At the Ways and Means hearing, Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) asked Sebelius about the administrations assurances that people who liked their current health insurance plan would be able to keep it under the new law.
How about when the president said you can keep your health care coverage, if you like it? Roskam said. And yet, the reality is, according to Bloomberg (News) at least, 9 percent fewer businesses are offering medical coverage than in 2010. There the rhetoric didnt meet the reality, did it?
Sebelius did not contest the numbers.
Well again, congressman, what youre seeing, it wouldnt have mattered if we had passed the Affordable Care Act or not, she said. The private market is in a death spiral.

She may have been referring to the individual issue marketplace, as opposed to group plans. Individual issue has been in a death spiral for a long period of time. Althoug medical costs are the prime culprit, government hasn’t helped with interference in the market at both ends (mandates regarding covered services and underwriting, and increasingly successful efforts by insureds to compel coverage that insurers attempt to deny). All this has driven up premiums and deductibles so high that anyone who can get group coverage will, and many people with good health will roll the dice and forgo coverage — leaving only sicker people to buy coverage.
What’s even more chilling is that I ‘rattled those off’ on the fly for purposes of posting.
It would be fine without all of the new mandates they are implemented to kill it off....
All it needs is the “beer looter guy” in the background....
Some did that before....
LOL
The ‘coverage until age 26’ clause was just another tactic to ensure the youth vote for 0bama.
——YEAH...the government KILLED it, you evil b*(tch-——
May she spend her later years in a Cuban hospital.
OK, I can’t even wish that on her.
She doesn't give a crap. She is exempt from obamacare. They put in a nice little exemption clause for themselves (congress).
Make Sillybus bird pin into a Hammer and Sickle please.
Perfect.
And notice she didn't answer the question.
Another huge O-bomb-a lie which no one on the socialist team can defend.
Excuse: “Guns are going from USA to Mexico”
Change: Gun control
Excuse: “State govts. are passing voter ID laws and immigration enforcement laws”
Change: DOJ takes control
Excuse: “Companies moving to right-to-work states costs union jobs”
Change: Force them to stay in union states via NLRB
Nope, that list alone is enough to make me head out for several stiff drinks.
Oh, wait, now there's another one: Excuse: Public drunkeness caused by Obama plans. CHANGE: mandatory chipping of all people because they MIGHT drink.
Well when your government is strangling the life out of you, you tend to die....
“I think she is the spawn of Dr Kevorkian.”
Close — she is the daughter of John Gilligan, former RAT-Lib-Socialist governor of Ohio who instituted the state income tax — thanks a lot, Jack.
The private market is in a death spiral. by design, brought to you by the United States Government.
“Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told the House Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday that the days of private health insurance are coming to an end in the United States.”
Be afraid. Be very afraid. Then fight!
Your first one is on my list but those others are keepers. You just reminded me that the DOJ replaced many of Sheriff Joe’s officers with Feds BECAUSE OF ARPAIO’S ELIGIBILITY INVESTIGATION.. Talk about strong-arming, and probably attempting to gain access to Joe’s computer files. Hopefully, Arpaio is one step ahead.
