An Italian cruise ship with about 1,000 people on board is reported to be adrift off the coast of Seychelles.
The Italian coast guard said Monday the Costa Allegra is drifting in the Indian Ocean, between Madagascar and the Seychelles islands.
Officials say a fire on board caused the ship's engines to fail. There have been no reports of injuries.

Brilliant!!! Thank you for the good laugh.

My travel agent just informed me Costa Cruise Line is owned by Carnival Cruise Line. I think that explains a lot.
On the flip side, if the cost of an Italian cruise sinks low enough, Arrivederci! I wonder if I can FReep from the ship?

Another ship from the same company? Wow, their value just plummeted even more.

Yes, you can FReep from the cruise ship, but internet minutes are expensive!!
I’ve been on Carnival Splendor twice. Looks like it’s becoming a bad luck ship, but I enjoyed both trips & didn’t have any untoward experiences.

You can see the center of boyancy on the Costa Concordia. At least you can see one side of it...

I did a Carnival Cruise once. Yikes! Perhaps they've improved but the ship was dirty, the food was lousy and the service was mediocre. I spent the entire cruise avoiding the wine steward from my first night's dining. He called my room incessantly despite being told to stop. Not even a complaint to the concierge could stop that guy.

Also, frankly, those cruise ships look extremely top-heavy to me.
It’s crazy all the money wasted on maritime engineers and expert ship builders, when we have your eyeballs to rely upon!

Probably called for a helo to off lift him to the shore. He can see much better from up there. I saw a program on one of the discovery/history channels yesterday after the one that hit the rocks. That captain was ordered back on the vessel and refused to go back. Claimed he could see better from the SAFETY of the life boat. He should be hung. NO CAPTAIN leaves before all living persons are OFF that vessel.

Our family went on a Princess cruies to Alaska and it was awesome. Carnival also had a ship that we saw at Juneau. Our ship was pretty quiet with a mellow crowd and the Carnival ship was full of people hooting and hanging off of their balconies as they passed us. One of the crew told us that it was the same company as Princess but a world apart and that Carnival passengers are notorious for just wanting to party. We were on the Diamond Princess and we were happy with everything and I would go again if I could.

The captain just made port in Madagascar with his lifeboat and he assured the waiting press that everything is “under control” with respect to the Costra Allegra still out at sea. The captain than hailed a cab and hastily made his departure.
