As gas prices soar above $4 a gallon, GOP presidential contender Newt Gingrich on Saturday accused President Barack Obama of deliberately allowing oil prices to spike as a way to "punish" Americans for driving big cars.
In a 48-minute lunchtime speech at the state Republican Party spring convention at the glitzy San Francisco Airport Hyatt Regency, the former House speaker countered -- point by point -- a speech Obama made last week in New York. And Gingrich reprised a similar refrain of four years ago to "drill, drill, drill."
"This is deliberate strategy of the left to punish the American people and get them to drive the kind of cars they want you to," Gingrich said. "The American people like big cars. ... The American people should decide what kind of cars they should drive."
Obama, Gingrich said, "believes in small cars. He believes in an anti-American energy policy ... in high prices and government control."
Obama's decision to deny permits for the development of the Keystone Ridgeline pipeline is costing Americans a lower price at the pump and a million jobs, Gingrich said.
Gingrich's supporters held up placards with a gas pump and $2.50 above it, the price per gallon he promised he could bring to consumers if elected.
Gingrich was the lone active Republican candidate in California, eschewing Michigan, where Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, and to a lesser degree, Ron Paul, are locked in a battle over delegates that will be decided in Tuesday's primary there, and in Arizona.
Herman Cain, who bowed out of the GOP presidential primary several weeks ago amid a cloud of sexual allegations, introduced Gingrich, saying he came closest among the contenders to backing his so-called 9-9-9 flat tax plan.

That makes sense.
The people on welfare are not paying for gas. We, the taxpayers are.
The welfare people are not paying for food, insurance, cars, cell phones, housing or education.
BO is punishing us, the taxpayers, by making us pay for all of those things for the 49.5% who don’t work, can’t work or won’t work.

Americans may be too dumb to elect the one man who can stand up to Omuslim, but I hope he stays in the race to the bitter end and keeps socking it to that sob.
Maybe some of it will filter into their empty heads.

Making America’s energy prices skyrocket is about the only promise he made us that he is carrying out.
Is it deliberate? How can anyone with a brain refuse to believe that it is.
