ROCKLIN (CBS13) – A Placer County town is considering a ban on smoking that some say goes way too far.
The Rocklin City Council is considering making it against the law for smokers to smoke anywhere outside on their property.
The city council is considering the ban after one home owner complained about smoke coming from their neighbors’ backyards saying it caused health problems for their kids.
But before going to the city council, the family first asked their neighbors to stop smoking.
One couple agreed, according to their son.
“They felt that there wasn’t any reason to put the household in any sort of health risk,” Eric Croslin said explaining his parent’s position.
But some smokers and even some non-smokers saying this ban goes too far.
“So what about people who have children in their home and they don’t want to smoke in their home?” asked non-smoker Tamara Davis.
“As a smoker, I think that smokers should be considerate,” said Rocklin resident and smoker Ryan Malonson. “But on your own property, that’s unacceptable…It’s not going to pass.”
It is already against the law for smokers to light up near businesses, parks and playground in California.

Why is it that if 1 person complains, then a whole town passes ordinances to appease one malcontent? I’ve read many research papers which have stated that the second-hand smoke hysteria is inconclusive.
Why do people never complain about the ills of alcohol? Why not ban it on the beaches, parks, etc.? It’s far more dangerous than smoking, IMO.
Its to the point where If I lived here, I would make a point of smoking in my back yard every time I lit up.
They cant be bothered with illegals all over the state, but they are going to chase down smokers who light up on their property.. yeah good luck with that. Wait till the first person gets killed because a cop was on a call for “Illegal smoking” lol
Drango is weird. Every other FReeper who objects to smoking just doesn’t like the smell.
Drano just hates smokers for reasons that only he and his therapist know.
He can’t or won’t communicate. My guess is his mom, dad died from cancer he blames on cigarettes.
Anti smoking groups jumped the shark years ago.

I’ve been to California twice. It’s a nice state, if you don’t mind the heat in the south. Unfortunately, the voting public are turning the state into one giant barrel of suck.
Of course they will do nothing, and one day we will ALL wake up and find that EVERYTHING we do will be banned, regulated or against the law.
It was a great country while it lasted.
BBQ’s and gas mowers can’t be to far behind. After all, smoke is smoke.
Shhh, all the anti-smokers want is non-smoking sections in restaurants and smoking eliminated from airplanes. Plus, seat belt laws will never be a primary reason for drivers to be stopped and ticketed...
