Video: Dem Rep booed by constituents over HHS mandate

When Hochul spoke in support of the President, the crowd booed. Many in the audience carried signs, including one that read: “Kathy why have you betrayed our Catholic institutions?” One woman in the crowd told Hochul: “This President has lied to us repeatedly when he proclaims support for conscience protection in his infamous speech at Notre Dame as well as in the executive order he signed following passage of the health care law. He is not worthy of your support in this matter.” Another man shouted “It’s an insult to the Catholics in this country to even listen to that gibberish. It is an absolute insult and Catholics deserve better. We were taking care of this country’s sick long before the government got involved in it.”

Pastor Leon Bienart of Our Lady of Pompeii Church also asked Hochul if the President or Congress consulted with Catholic bishops before they issued the policy. Hochul replied that it was a good question and she would try to get an answer. The Congresswoman also replied this way to the questions and criticism “We’re not gonna agree on this one. I’m gonna tell you that I will stand for our religious freedoms. But I don’t see a conflict here. Now that there’s been an accommodation that says religious institutions do not have to provide these services. So we’re just going to have to disagree on that.”

The meeting was heavily publicized on Catholic radio and many Catholic organizations encouraged people to attend and discuss the contraception issue. It was also brought up specifically by Father Beinart during his Mass on February 5th when he criticized President Obama and Congresswoman Hochul.

If we had a conservative at the top of the ticket this Fall, we might get bigger majorities in the House and take back the Senate. Oh, well.

“I’m gonna tell you that I will stand for our religious freedoms.”
Then tell us why you don’t, because you didn’t.

“But I don’t see a conflict here.”
Then go see a good optometrist. It is written very clearly in the Constitution where it says, “…or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”

“Now that there’s been an accommodation that says religious institutions do not have to provide these services.”
There isn’t an accommodation because the shell game changes nothing. Religious institutions must still provide “these services.”

“So we’re just going to have to disagree on that.”
And the voters will overwhelmingly have to disagree with you on your chances for reelection.

Hochul won a special election when Chris Lee resigned his seat after he had been exposed for responding to Craigslist ads. It has been Republican for about 10 years before then.

Hochul's Congressional District is the NY 26th and won a special election in 2011 when the seat was vacated because of the Chris Lee Scandal:

Lee's a Republican and was a dumbass for pulling that stunt! The Republican's ran a RINO against Hochul in the special election and gave the district away to a liberal Democrat. She doesn't give a squat about representing her Catholic constituents and her statement above is proof.

BTW, I live in the NY 29th, the next district over from the NY 26th, a mile from the border and my neighborhood was actually part of the NY 26th in the late 90's and early 2000's.

The Republicans can beat Hochul in November, but they need to field a good candidate who's a conservative and not a RINO. Iraq War hero, David Bellavia, fits the bill and has tried to run twice for the seat, but the Republicans rejected him in favor of Chris Lee and then Jane Corwin and it was a big mistake if you ask me.

Will the seat still exist?

What the Dems might do is give Hochul the Buffalo-Rochester corridor (what Slaughter has now) then carve out a Dem seat from Rochester to Ithaca (Hinchey is retiring and his seat can’t stay Dem without Ithaca) for Slaughter.

(This might be the price for getting Turner in NY-09 a winnable seat)

Don't know, but if it does, it's time to give David Bellavia a shot at running. He's not a Republican insider and the Republican establishment clearly blew the 2011 special election by running Corwin. I believe Bellavia could beat Hochul, hands down.

I think a good analogy for Obama's "accommodation" would be this:

Suppose your friend decides to rob a bank and you agree to drive the getaway car. If you do, you're criminally liable in the bank robbery.

Obama is telling the Catholic Church that they don't have to take the gun into the bank themselves, but they must drive the getaway car.

Corwin was and is far from a rino. She is a decent hardworking person who actually stands up in the assembly and speaks for us.

Now Bellavia, as much as I like him he has some real issues healing the wounds he opened by getting involved and endorsing Jack Davis. IF he runs he will be treated just like anyone else. He will be invited to our candidate forums and when the vote is taken as to who gets the support from the TEA Party, that is going to be the result.

I agree he got screwed by the Republicans, Lee and Reynolds and I stood up for him. I was all over the radio and media here in the area calling them all out. I did what I could for David and then he slapped us in the face.

This was a special election not a general where he could have run a primary, if it was I would have carried him on my shoulders to victory.

He is partially responsible for electing Hochul by campaigning for and with Davis.

You know who I am. Rus Thompson from http://TEANewYork.com no one was more involved in this race than I was. Hochul NEVER should have won this race. David Bellavia helped her win, that is something he will have to deal with, not me. Everyone in the TEA Party around here remembers what he did.

Rus, you're dead wrong on this issue. When the WNY Republican establishment *again* turned their back on a real life American hero and chose Corwin, the Republicans gave the election to Hochul on a silver platter, not David Bellavia! Corwin is a RINO:

From: Conservative chairman rebuffing Bellavia’s bid

Corwin’s views are frequently inconsistent with the Conservative Party’s core values, and I am disappointed she also plans to vote in Congress to force pharmacists to participate in taking a human life against their religious beliefs,” Bellavia said. “In stark contrast to her liberal position, I would introduce legislation as a member of Congress to protect pharmacists’ constitutional rights by allowing them to refuse to fill prescriptions for the abortion pill based on their religious or ethical objections.”

If David Bellavia were in office now instead of Cathy Hochul, WNY Catholics and Christians would have had somebody in their corner concerning the Obamacare mandate.

BTW, I did not support Jack Davis nor did I vote for him.

That is not what I said. Bellavia endorsed Davis, he worked against us.

This was a special election and no place for a 3rd party run.
Bellavia worked for and endorsed Davis.

I was not happy 100% with Corwin but that is the hand we were dealt and we had no choice but to run with it. Bellavia helped put this seat in to democrat hands. He knew dam right well what he was doing and we argued over this constantly. He didn’t care, his campaign was in pure vengeance.

His petitions were fraudulent too. He made a deal that we would save pull his petitions before he was charged with fraud and by doing that he was going to back Corwin. He basically told us to F off and went to Davis.

I only hope the district lines put him in another district to run because he has pissed off so many people down here, he has much work to do to heal those wounds. He hasn’t and is instead launching a run and Caputo is pushing him. Remember Caputo? Ya he is the one that helped screw up the governors race.

There is more to meet the eye in this whole mess.

Rus, although we've worked together on issues in the past, we're not going to be in agreement over this one. As a veteran, I support fellow veteran David Bellavia, a true conservative who will represent everyone in the NY 26th, including the most innocent, those who are still in the womb.

With that said, I hope the WNY Republican establishment runs true conservatives in the Congressional races (however district lines are redrawn), not only the NY 26th, but also a credible challenge in the NY 28th to unseat Louise Slaughter. They didn't give Jill Rowland much support and her campaign was outspent by Slaughter's by a factor of 77.
