I was only around for Carter and Clinton, so I can only speak to them.

The GOP lost to Carter as they would have lost to a monkey running on the Dem ticket.

Do you remember a little thing called “Watergate”? People didn’t hate Nixon so much as the GOP was being punished for Watergate. There was no way any Republican was going to win in the cycle following Watergate. It had nothing to do with the GOP being stupid or running a poor campaign.

Now again, why did Bill Clinton win? It was because that idiot Daddy Bush had to violate his ironclad, irreversible, set-in-stone pledge “Read my lips. No new taxes.”

The GOP base punished him for breaking his tax pledge.

So in neither case did the GOP run bad campaigns or run bad candidates. In both cases, the GOP was poison for that cycle, due to errors by the incumbent GOP presidents.

Looking at it more deeply, I would say BOTH parties lost power in every cycle since Nixon, because the incumbent president always made some mistake they were punished for.

In 2008, Baby Bush alienated the GOP base by doubling the national debt in 8 years and growing government by leaps and bounds. GOP voters punished him by not turning out in adequate nubmers.

In 2000, Clinton alienated the Democratic base who were sick of his perverted antics with the entire Lewinski affair. They may have hated Ken Starr, but make no mistake, the Democrat voters punished the Democrat party for Clinton’s horndog antics.

Before that, Clinton rode in in 1992 on the back of Daddy Bush’s broken tax pledge.

If the “stupid party” was so stupid, then why is it that Daddy Bush got elected in 1988. That happened because the nation was rewarding Ronald Reagan for doing a stellar job of cleaning up Carter’s economic mess, and taking down the Soviet Union.

And how did Reagan win in 1980? He won because Carter was a buffoon who made a string of mistakes like losing Iran to the Mullahs, the worst of which was the “malaise” of Stagflation during which most people experienced the worst economy in 25 years. The voters punished Carter for incompetence.

So if you really study it carefully, you can see that every change of party came from an idiotic mistake made by an incumbent president.

Nixon’s Watergate coverup begat Carter.
Carters stagflation begat Reagan.
Bush’s broken tax promise begat Clinton.
Clinton’s Lewinski scandal begat Baby Bush.
Baby Bush’s ruinous spending and government growth begat Obama.

Now Obama has presided over the first economic depression since 1940 and worsened it while catapulting the national debt to new levels.

He is going to be punished with a change of party in the White House.

This logic is simple and obvious. And even the worst mistakes by the stupid party won’t save Obama from being punished by a weary electorate that is terrified about the economy.

This is why it is all the more frustrating we may have to live with that idiot RINO Romney. We have a guaranteed lock for president. We should have nominated someone like Jim Demint. I hope Santorum wins and turns out to be conservative. Romney will be a certain disaster ala Juan McLame.

“Do you remember a little thing called “Watergate”? People didn’t hate Nixon so much as the GOP was being punished for Watergate. There was no way any Republican was going to win in the cycle following Watergate.”

Not only do I remember it, I remember that the leftist narrative had not yet metastasized to the extent that it has today. There were still plenty of people who saw what the demonrats were up to.

Whenever the forces of darkness bring up Watergate, rational people should immediately come back with the facts. To wit:

Both parties wine and dine moneyed citizens as part of their efforts to obtain donations. They try to get the citizen’s head spinning by inviting him to any event that will put him in the company of the famous and powerful.

At that particular time, the demonrats had expanded this itinerary to include treating potential donors to the services of prostitutes, paid for out of DNC money. You know, Joe Sixpack’s ten bucks that he contributed to have a voice in our representative republic.

That was a felony. Actually, each instance was a separate felony.

Some of Nixon’s subordinates, without his knowledge, decided to try and obtain documentary proof of this, with the intention of exposing the dims’ felonious behavior. Unfortunately for America, the people of South Viet Nam, and mankind in general, they were not practiced and proficient criminals. As one might have guessed, they made a hash of it.

Nixon’s subordinates, then, were guilty of conspiracy to expose multiple felonies involving the improper use of DNC funds to pay prostitutes.

When his subordinates finally told him the truth, Nixon decided it would be best to cover up this trifling indiscretion. This was entirely reasonable, in view of the heinous crimes that the media had covered up for Roosevelt, maybe Truman, certainly Kennedy and Johnson.

Later, they even covered up murder for a sitting president.

The demonrats, knowing that they had the media in their pocket, decided to lie, lie, lie, and spin, spin, spin, and artificially escalated this tempest in a teapot to the status of a (barf alert) “constitutional crisis.”

In 1976, there were still plenty of Americans who had their heads on straight. If the Stupid Party had dumped Ford and put Reagan up, they would most probably have won. Instead, they declared pre-emptive surrender, sent Ford out as their Judas goat, and quite simply ceded the election to the rats without firing a shot.

“Now again, why did Bill Clinton win? It was because that idiot Daddy Bush had to violate his ironclad, irreversible, set-in-stone pledge “Read my lips. No new taxes.”

And the Republican Party let him get away with it. That doesn’t strike you as stupid? There was another reason that the Bent One won: the Stupid Party proved itself the Cowardly Party as well, and put virtually none of Beelzebubba’s many felonies before the public. Hell, they had enough on him to send him to prison for fifty consecutive life sentences, and they just kept their wussy little mouths shut and took it up the keister. Stupid.

“So in neither case did the GOP run bad campaigns or run bad candidates.”

In both cases the Stupid Party ran pathetic campaigns and bad candidates. Come on, Ford was a good candidate? A president who just stabbed America in the back is a good candidate?

“In both cases, the GOP was poison for that cycle, due to errors by the incumbent GOP presidents.”

Road apples. They failed to get better candidates, and they fought those campaigns with a tiny fraction of the energy the demonrats always bring to bear.

“Looking at it more deeply, I would say BOTH parties lost power in every cycle since Nixon, because the incumbent president always made some mistake they were punished for.”

Many of Clintstone’s high crimes and misdemeanors occurred in his first term. Why didn’t he lose?

What matters more than facts are the leftist narratives of events, and how many people are taken in by them.

“In 2008, Baby Bush alienated the GOP base by doubling the national debt in 8 years and growing government by leaps and bounds. GOP voters punished him by not turning out in adequate numbers.”

Bush didn’t run in 2008. Stupid Party voters punished the Stupid Party for choosing a candidate famous for turning his coat more often than a fashion model. Sure, Sarah Palin got him more votes than he would have received without her, but they made sure not to let her be herself. Had they let her be herself, they might have won.

“In 2000, Clinton alienated the Democratic base who were sick of his perverted antics with the entire Lewinski affair.”

But Gore almost “won,” if you ignore the massive election fraud. How does that show that the demonrats were alienated? (BTW, the Lewinski affair was a diversion to draw the eye away from his actual treasonous felonies.)

“They may have hated Ken Starr”

They may have pretended to hate Ken Starr, but that traitor gave the first black-hearted president a pass on a number of things that should have had him rotting in a cell today.

“but make no mistake, the Democrat voters punished the Democrat party for Clinton’s horndog antics.”

I don’t think it’s a mistake to deny that. Demonrats don’t object to adultery, fornication, sodomy, drug use, or even murder, just so long as they can count on a politician to walk the country to the left. Clinton didn’t do anything that the demonrat voters object to.

“If the “stupid party” was so stupid, then why is it that Daddy Bush got elected in 1988. That happened because the nation was rewarding Ronald Reagan for doing a stellar job of cleaning up Carter’s economic mess, and taking down the Soviet Union.”

They weren’t smart enough to see that he was a weather vane who would stab us in the back, were they? In as much modesty as I can muster, I was, and so were many of my friends and acquaintances.

“And how did Reagan win in 1980? He won because Carter was a buffoon who made a string of mistakes like losing Iran to the Mullahs, the worst of which was the “malaise” of Stagflation during which most people experienced the worst economy in 25 years. The voters punished Carter for incompetence.”

Reagan won by going straight to the voters and explaining himself, and then keeping his word. Reagan won because he had greatness in him, and the vast majority of us could see it. Bob Dole would have lost to Carter.

“Now Obama has presided over the first economic depression since 1940”

The Bamturd turned a recession into a depression, just as FDR did before him—and, risibly enough, by following exactly the same policies.

“This logic is simple and obvious.”

Logic is a tool, like a hammer or a screwdriver. It can lead you to either the correct or an incorrect answer, without any flaw in logic at all.

“And even the worst mistakes by the stupid party won’t save Obama from being punished by a weary electorate that is terrified about the economy.”

I hope you are correct.

“Jim Demint.”

A weak man.

“Santorum”

A weak man.

“Romney will be a certain disaster ala Juan McLame.”

I thought you said the Stupid Party was certain to win.

Great analysis. I would like to add that many of those voters, that would save/reward/support a president who made an idiotic mistake, just stay home on election day.

Second, the MSM (Zedia) has played a major role in elections. But their grip on influence of elections has been steadily waning. Talk radio, the internet and Fox News are the players here. So MSM's grip is ever more desperate, radical and obvious. The Zedia (Zombie media) will go even further over the top in trying to save the Big "O" from political demise. This could be a great gift. Even the stupidest of voters will see that the Zombies in the media are callously bent on deceiving voters for the sake of their Zombie King. The election of 2012 could just as well be about doubt of the MSM as doubt of President Obama.

Ford almost won in 1976 despite Watergate and the gaffe about Poland in the debate. He lost Ohio by about 11,000 votes. Carter’s margin in the electoral college was 297 to 240—Ohio and one or two other states could have given the election to Ford. If Ford had waited longer before pardoning Nixon, and had gotten Nixon to sound more contrite, there might not have been as many people still mad about the pardon at the time of the 1976 election.
