Old grudges die hard.

But I find myself in the odd position of defending Santorum here even though I favor Newt because so many of the charges here are ridiculous.

He’s for Romney. Don’t doubt me on this.

And forty others say he's for Santorum. And forty more say he's for Gingrich.

I listen to Rush everyday and my sense is that he clearly would prefer that somebody surpass Romney. But he will support any Republican in the general.

That's about where I am, too.

Okay, you’re a little nuts.

Don’t doubt me on that.

Well, Satin Doll, you’ve cherry picked Rick Santorum’s voting record and compiled a list and I’m not familiar enough with his voting record to refute every point.

But what is the context?

And if his voting record was that bad, why did he get such high ratings from conservative groups?

I just don’t see the point in attacking Santorum this way. We’ve only got 3 choices and right now Santorum is way ahead of Newt.

I’m still hoping Newt gets a bump next couple of weeks, but it’s a longshot, so why attempt to destroy our other candidate?

I don’t get it.

I don’t wish to argue with you or altura.

Romney is not a conservative— I would expect Rush to say he’s unacceptable, straight out. If he got the nomination- just like McCain-Rush would support the party’s nominee—there’s no hypocrisy there. But, Rush isn’t saying that.

But, I won’t try to change your minds.

“And if his voting record was that bad, why did he get such high ratings from conservative groups?”

And if his voting record was that good, why did he lose his senate seat by 18 pts in Pennsylvania?

Newt’s just about to come on Levin’s show where I am, Artcore.
Thanks for the heads up!

I don’t know enough about the Operation Good Neighbor thingy to comment....so far my limited search just showed the Santorum opposition opinion (similar to yours). Will have to look some more.

While I appreciate your long voting record list, it doesn’t tell ME a whole lot. I prefer the overall ratings. They tell the bigger picture vs. a list of items that may (or may not) be included in some bill.

But, Rush isn’t saying that.

And he's told you why.

To paraphrase:

I'm not coming down on any GOP candidate because I want to remain a credible supporter if that person should win the nomination.

Romney is obviously the subject of the above statement.

Rick Santorum is from a part of Pennsylvania where pro-life, socialy conservative/fiscally liberal Democrats were generally elected.

So Rick tries to straddle the divide between being the split conservative he was in Congress (socially conservative & fiscally liberal), and morph that stance into something more conservative now that he wants to be President. He is getting beat-up by that record.

He will not be getting any support from the unions he helped in the past. Leo Gerard, the International Steelworkers Union president, a communist and close adviser to Obama, has pressured unions into opposing Santorum.

I am concerned, that with Santorum’s past record of accomodating political players, that he just might start dealing with Gerard in order to garner political support in Pennsylvania.

It wouldn’t be the first time a straight shooter decided realpolitiks and his own benefit were more important than trust of the voters.

There’s an old saying, “past is prologue”. My purpose in researching the backgrounds and poltical records of candidates is NOT to be The Terminator, rather it is to inform folks about who we’re putting in office. That way, when that person does something obnoxious, we’re not overly surprised.

My desire is to see Obama, who I consider evil, voted out of our White House. That should be everyone’s goal. I will vote for whoever is the Republican candidate.

And I remember him coming down on McCain, but had no problem supporting him.

And what about all the talk over the years about the GOP has to nominate a Reagan conservative...any time we nominate a moderate, we lose. That’s his Gospel. Does that no longer apply?

As another 20-plus year listener, I am wondering about Rush.

He’s developed a disconnect that he did not use to have. Maybe it’s the money. Maybe an isolation from the everyday person. I dunno.

But, I don’t tune in to him for my daily dose of common sense anymore. I haven’t changed. I think he has.

Just to row the so-cons, Rush is now on his 3rd marriage with no kids from any of them. Lots of divorces and contraception apparently. Lawyers and birth control have been big players in his personal life it seems.

He’s never been a religious person. He’s personally eschewed that. All that’s left to assume is that he’s a fiscal conservative with a personal gap that needs a lot of mending to tape over.

And I remember him coming down on McCain, but had no problem supporting him.

As I recall, he caught a lot of guff from people for supporting a candidate he'd pretty well savaged. I'd guess he doesn't want to get caught in the same Catch 22 again this year.

any time we nominate a moderate, we lose. That’s his Gospel. Does that no longer apply?

Still applies. But, if Romney -- the moderate -- wins the nomination. we can't afford to let him lose, can we?

Obama...must...be...defeated.

Stick a sock in it, Rush - or try to push Palin into service. America will not survive another “operation chaos”.

Doesn’t have to “savage” anyone. “Romney is a moderate, and as I always say, I vote for the most conservative in the race. I support Newt and Rick.”

That’s all-

But they’re also irritating when it degenerates into name calling and anger.

That's just hilarious after this response to me. ROTFLOL

Enlighten us, gov_bean_ counter, is the Club for Growth and National Taxpayer's Union also "lying" when they rate Santorum's fiscal record IN OFFICE better than Newt and Romney?
