Over A Million US Families Are Living On A Shocking $2 Per Day

Febuary 24,2012
More than 1.46 million families in the U.S. are living on $2 or less per day, a new study found.
That's up from the 636,000 households who lived under the same conditions in 1996.
Two dollars or less per day translates to about $60 per person, per month.
While 43 percent of American households receive government benefits, a decreasing proportion of those benefits go to the poor, the researchers from University of Michigan and Harvard University, said.
The study based its definition of income on the U.S. Census Bureau's Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP).
It includes such factors as a person's pension and retirements, cash income from public programs, and reported income from friends and family members who are not part of the household.
When the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is included as income, the number of households living on $2 or less per day drops to about 800,000.
Additionally, the study found about 37 percent of the households living in poverty were headed by a married couple, while 51 percent were headed by a single female.
In 2011, nearly 50 percent of the households were headed by white non-Hispanics, 25 percent by African Americans, and 22 percent by Hispanics.
While minority groups do not represent the majority of these households, they're increased the most since 1996, the study found.

730 bucks a year? BS!
Food stamps pay around that in a month. You could work one day a week at McDonalds and blow that away.
If we threw in the calculated value of schooling, per child - in many countries, education is a cash outlay - we'd find the some really useful information about the "poor" of the United States. On the other hand, all reasonable people know that most of the per-pupil cost contributes nothing to the child's education, so maybe we can leave that out!
There is no possible way to even put a roof over your head for $60 per month. What number of these people are criminals or participate in the underground economy. If public assistance isn’t going to the poorest and neediest, than it’s time to take able bodied men and women off the public assistance rolls and tell them to get an freakin’ job and pay taxes.
Michelle: sixteen vacations and counting.
Let them eat Kikes...
BS....They’re not on the street...and that means more than $2 a day for a start. Any kid in school is getting more than that in free food. And he/she ain’t naked.
Are most of them here illegally?
“More than 1.46 million families in the U.S. are living on $2 or less per day, a new study found.”
“Two dollars or less per day translates to about $60 per person, per month.”
WOW... That means there must be 1.46 million ONE person families! I didn’t that one person was considered a family.
This must be public school math skills at work!
I CALL ABSOLUTE BULLCRAP!!!
No one is living $2 a day (at lest in the US), unless they are choosing to. NO FREAKING WAY!
Collecting Aluminum cans along highways will make you many times that a day.. this is absolute GARBAGE.
I don’t know how they came up with these numbers, but its crap. I am not saying there are not poor out there, but there are not folks running around with only $60 a month to their names.
Barack’s Uncle lives on half of that and quite comfortably or his nephew would assist him.
A single homeless person would have a hard time living on $5 a day.
They certainly couldn’t afford to smoke.
n 2011, nearly 50 percent of the households were headed by white non-Hispanics

That settles it. They can no longer claim calling Obama the food stamp president is racist.
Only people in america that are living on $2 or less a day, are Prison Inmates.. unless they are completely refusing assistance of any kind.. there is no way, none.
And that’s only because they don’t have to pay for anything.
... not counting Food Stamps, Section 8, Wic etc...
or criminal or other unreported income.
what a headline LOL!
Obama figured out how to make us all equal. Instead of elevating the bottom he lowered the top.
Wasnt there an article this morning counter these facts on how rich our poor peoples are? I forget the title . . .
Ridiculous.
A single American would find it very difficult or impossible to obtain adequate calories alone, on $2.00 for a single day, assuming they had access to a kitchen, stove and refrigerator.
To do it homeless would be pretty much impossible, to succeed at it for a long period of time is impossible.
A can of Pork and beans has 385 calories, a 12 oz. can of Bacon Spam has 1080, a 99 cent Breakfast Jack has 290 calories, to keep finding 2000 to 3500 calories a day for $2.00 in America would be quite a challenge, and they are claiming “families”.
The figures are so rediculous that one might expect the IRS to take an interest...sarc...
This is more Unicorn flatulence from the “expert” spinmasters.
