About 1,000 shoppers that gathered for a shoe release at an Orlando mall late Thursday became out of control, prompting deputies in riot gear to disperse the crowd.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office said 200 deputies went to the Florida Mall about 9:45 p.m. because of the crowd, which became unruly after Foot Locker canceled the release of the limited-edition Nike Air Foamposite One "Galaxy" shoes. The $220 purple and blue sneakers are made from an extra-durable material and glow in the dark.

Yet another paragraph in the long ugly story of a populace that knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

It would be interesting know how many of the 1000 rioters are deemed poor by government standards and are making the purchases with welfare income?

I hope you checked those Levi’s closely. If, in the name Levi’s, the E is larger than the L, you’ve got a collectors item on your hands and being in new condition would be worth hundreds of dollars. Just a little something to think about. I’ve seen used pairs of Levi’s, as described above, sell for over a hundred dollars.

Imagine what this group will be like if it’s food they’re wanting, not shoes.

This is directly connected to the pathology of the urban underclass and indirectly connected with the NBA All Star Game, which is this weekend in Orlando. Nike announced that, in honor of the game, a limited number of a special edition shoe would be available at the store.
Naturally, the announcement drew a crowd of mostly minority urban males with criminal records and an acquisitive frame of mind. As is common with gatherings of such crowds, the result was chaotic and dangerous. Serenely and smugly above it all is Nike's marketing team, which knows who it is selling to and no doubt privately scores this as a win.

Wait a couple of years and buy them gently used in the thrift store.
