Santorum more right than wrong about Dutch euthanasia
The Daily Caller ^ | 02/21/12 | Wesley Smith

The Dutch like their euthanasia — but sure are sensitive when a prominent person describes the horrors that medicalized killing has unleashed. Latest example: Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum criticized Dutch euthanasia in an interview with James Dobson, stating in part:

Ten percent of all deaths, and half of those people are euthanized involuntarily, because they are old or sick. And so elderly people in the Netherlands don’t go into a hospital. They go to another country.

The Dutch media pounced, mocking Santorum for charging their doctors with “murdering” the elderly on “a grand scale.” Alas, he asked for it because he got the details wrong. When decrying the culture of death, one must be as accurate as possible. Otherwise, the fish wiggles off the hook.

Mariner, again, you distort what it is that happens with those morphine machines. You cannot get a lethal dose from them no matter what you do. The devices let you push a button even if nothing actually happens.

Unrestricted administration of opium products is unlawful in the United States and is heavily enforced.

I do know that in Washington Hospital Center there are nurses who have in the past jiggered the machines to administer less ~ that way they'd take the half empty containers (that are already checked out) and take them home for sale.

Turned those suckers in.

http://www.surgeryencyclopedia.com/La-Pa/Patient-Controlled-Analgesia.html#b READ THIS.

You didn't really think those guys were getting all the morphine they asked for?

There's always a trick. I did have a nurse I know well tell me that when a junky checks in for surgery he or she will always KNOW that the machine is cutting them short. They all have high tolerance levels.

The doctors do not change the settings to give the junkies what they want ~ they have them cuffed to the bedframe if they get unruly.
