The moment handcuffed woman, 20, was left brain dead after being Tasered for trying to escape police
dailymail.co.uk ^ | 2-21-12 | Lee Moran

A 20-year-old woman has been left brain dead - after she was Tasered by police and smacked her head on the ground. Danielle Maudsley had been taken to a Florida Highway Patrol Station after being arrested for a suspected hit-and-run in September. Handcuffed, she ran out of the door.

But as footage from a police cruiser dashboard camera reveals, Trooper Daniel Cole, who this week was cleared of any wrongdoing, fired a Taser's electric probes into her back.

She spun, fell backwards and hit her head on the ground. Bleeding and crying she tried to get up. She then blacked out and has remained unconscious ever since.

So now the penalty for being a moron is death. Great!!!

Well, not always. In fact, the chances are actually pretty slim. But the reality is that being a moron always increases the odds of something bad happening, no matter what the circumstances. That's life.

As much as it pained me, I went back and watched the video again. The taser is drawn as the cop enters the frame. The scenario I postulate is even more plausible for that case.

Taser International has had to backtrack so often on its less than lethal claims, I am surprised they are even still in business.

National Institute of Justice suggested protocols for handling taser deployments and I believe there are instances where LEO’s are instructed not to deploy them on people standing up, because of the countless injuries that have resulted from the paralyzing falls by the victims. Also, an ambulance must be called in every instance to ensure victim’s do not develop a heart attack.

Was the LEO tested for illicit drugs in his system? I doubt it. IMHO if it hadn’t been for the dash cam video, this case would never even make it into the courts. In other words, per the powers that be, she would have “died” in about 20 minutes anyway, had she escaped the taser attack.

Personally, I believe the industry has snowed critical debate in the public about this extremely misused instrument.

How is it, that in this country of laws, a person can be subject to what amounts to cruel and unusual punishment, administered on the street, without DUE PROCESS?

I can wager that not one person on death row would ever be put down by tasering them until they are dead. You would never here the end of the hue and cry, yet almost on a weekly basis I here of the tragic consequences of illegal taser use, that appears to always end up being perfectly legal when administered by a thug with a badge.

I guess a bloody “good kill” is just too messy anymore!

Hell, what really gets me is the script that is used in these cases when they come forward. Law enforcement is trained and I’m guessing there is a manual on how to get away with killing someone safely with a taser gun.

Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s” commands people to respect state authority, disobedience to them equates to disobedience to God

So if the state orders gun confiscation, you'll respect its authority and obey?

Screw you jackoff. I’ve been on FR for a very long time, just not always as the same guy and just because you’ve been posting here a long time doesn’t make you more right than anyone else.

You are a tool who hates cops. I hope you need one someday and there is nobody around to help you idiot.

Looks like a lot of posters don’t agree with your ideas either.

And if your relative had been alive in Nazi Germany, undoubtedly she would never have tried to escape from the Gestapo, but quietly followed orders into the cattle car.

I never knew that the Jews in Germany were hit and run driving dope addicts.

Thanks for the update and I would imagine that Jews around the world appreciate you comparing their family members to this miserable piece of crap.

Thanks again.

Why do we let fat out of shape people become cops??

Hire them fit and trim, then feed them lots of donuts?

just not always as the same guy

You use multiple accounts?

That is a pretty serious breach of FR's rules of conduct.

You sure make a lot of assumptions, noob. My father was an NYPD detective for 35 years, and he said this 'cop' is pathetic. My cousin is a Maricopa deputy...we'll see what he thinks.

Had he takled her, there was an equal if not better chance that she could have been hurt seriously...and if that had happened we would have heard the same calls regarding police exceeding their powers from the very same people in all likelihood.

If she was not hurt, then she may have struggled to get his gun. Clearly she was trying to do every thing she could to escpe.

All of those would have been very bad outcomes and risks.

So, the officer used the least lethal way he could to stop her and there was a terrible accident. Calling him fat and lazy are clearly angry, accusative, judgemental terms that have no basis in the reality of what happened.

The accident that hurt this woman was one of her own making. She had committed two hit and runs, she was involved with drugs, and see was committing a crime by trying to escape. The officer simply tried to stop her.

Her head being split-open open was not any kind of payment for her crimes, and I do not believe any of the people involved...any of the officers looked at it, planned it, or thought of it in that manner. What it was, was a result of her bad choices...plain and simple.

Sorry she was so seriously injured...but not sorry she was stopped. She clearly would have continued in the same vein IMHO, and some innocent sooner or later was going to be hurt or killed because of her. It could easily have already happened given what she had done and the police had every right to stop her and get her off the street before that occurred.

Without an amendment to the US Constitution such an order would itself be illegal and null and void as “law” from the get go. No need to respect crimnal actions and orders of that sort.

I may appear to be defacto law because of the State having so much power...put if they push that particular order they may find wherte the power actually resides.

Good evenin’ bro.

See my post 211 and others made here.

Sad the lady hit her head and was injured...but not sad at all that she was stopped and is off the street. She was sure enopugh, sooner or later going to hurt or kill someone. She made a bad choice...several of them...and it cost her.

The officer simply tried to stop her in as non-lethal and non=-harmful way as possible, and there was a terrible accident. Never would have happened if she hadn’t been into drugs, used someone’s vehicle without permission, committed two hit and runs, and then tried to escape police custody.

Ignoring the question of why she was able to escape control of the officer altogether, it seems to me the officer had the ability to stop her, control her and cage her so the justice system could deal with her appropriately. That was their only role here. I have to disagree with the comment that the officer simply tried to stop her. Personally, I don't believe this was a reasonable use of the tase but I understand how others may disagree and I'll respect that opinion. The outcome was the result of her bad decisions. The decisions by the officer also played a part. Finally, she wasn't injured. She is dead.

Jeff, I respect you, I do. That said, how on earth is a 90 pound, HANDCUFFED female going to wrest the gun from a 250+ pound, trained officer of the law? I’m sorry, but tasers knock out the muscle control of the individual. That man could have grabbed the woman, pulled her to a stop and gotten her into a nice jail cell within minutes. Instead, he caused her death just as surely as if he had put a gun to her head.

As others have said on this thread, tasers should be used only as a last resort before going to a gun. The taser has been proven to be far from “non-lethal” and this officer was in little if any danger in subduing this suspect. He took the easy way out and this woman is now brain dead. To add insult to injury, her care is costing the taxpayers in the locality untold amounts of money, not to mention he has put those same taxpayers at risk of even more loss at the hands of a civil lawsuit.

“Why do we let fat out of shape people become cops??

Seriously? This girl needed tazed? This guy may have been cleared of wrongdoing, but Jesus really? you couldn’t cover the feet that speprated you with her without pulling a tazer”

Don’t have to be in shape to chase anyone anymore. Using a tazer makes it nice and easy. No fuss, no muss. Falling backwards and cracking you head on the pavement can lead to very serious damage. Happened to me just yesterday. Slipped on a sheet of ice covered by a dusting of snow (didn’t see the ice) and down I went, flat on my back and my head hit the pavement. Luckily I had a winter cap on and a hood over that, so it absorbed some of the shock.

Jumping to conclusions there buddy. After my last account was closed out I came back with a new one after a year or so absence.

I’ve only got one account on here. Now go find a cop to hate.

If your dad was a NYPD cop then no wonder you hate them. They have to be some of the most corrupt cops around. I could care less what he thinks of other cops.

I could care less about your brother or you either.

You stand up for a drug addled (already brain dead) chick who could have driven her stolen car through a cross walk and killed some kids or an old person. She got what she deserved. She was dead long before this cop did the right thing by taking her worthless ass out.

She’s brain dead. Pull the plug buddy, this vegetable is ready for planting. Too bad her drug damaged organs aren’t worth putting in someone who is worth a damn.
