Billionaire Sheldon Adelson Says He Might Give $100M To Newt Gingrich Or Other Republican

Sheldon Adelson plays as stubbornly in politics as he does in business. So the criticisms that he’s trying to personally buy the presidential election for Newt Gingrich are met with a roll of the eyes. “Those people are either jealous or professional critics,” Adelson tells me during his first interview since he and his wife began funneling $11 million, with another $10 million injection widely expected, into the former speaker’s super PAC, Winning Our Future. “They like to trash other people. It’s unfair that I’ve been treated unfair—but it doesn’t stop me. I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich.”

Adelson, 78, certainly can afford to: With a net worth of roughly $25 billion, that $11 million, which jolted Gingrich’s flatlining presidential bid back to life, equates to 0.044% of his fortune. For someone with a $1 million net worth, the equivalent would be $440, or a two-night stay at Adelson’s Venetian casino. Adelson could personally fund an entire presidential campaign—say, $1 billion or so—and not even notice. Sheldon Adelson Could Give $1 Billion To Gingrich And Not Notice.

Is that fair? “I’m against very wealthy people attempting to or influencing elections,” he shrugs. “But as long as it’s doable I’m going to do it. Because I know that guys like Soros have been doing it for years, if not decades. And they stay below the radar by creating a network of corporations to funnel their money. I have my own philosophy and I’m not ashamed of it. I gave the money because....

I don’t and will not waste my time with Beck anymore and I get more of Beck second hand than I want.

I believe that Santorum is not a fiscal conservative and that he is not a good speaker and doesn’t have the abilities and capabilities that will be necessary to get elected and if he does I believe that he will not be able to make the impact necessary to stave off our rush to socialism. I believe that Newt Gingrich is the only candidate with the vision, plan, abilities and capabilities to turn the country to the RIGHT path.

I have many times posted that I would support Santorem if he gets the nomination and will do so even though my enthusiasm for him is waning the more his record is exposed and the more I hear him speak.

We are faced with extrodinary problems and we need someone with extrodinary abilities and capabilities and there is only one among the announced or unannounced candidates that can get the job done. I stand with Newt Gingrich.

I'm against any and all contribution limits. If Adelson or Soros wants to give all his earthly possessions to the candidate of his choice, let him.

That said, I have to wonder what Adelson might want or demand in return.

Which is why I have posted several PUBLIC prayer threads and encourage like minded FReepers to do the same.

Do not expect any courtesy from me, I flat out do not like or respect Santorum. He is not qualified for the job, period.

Your claim that Newt supporters are latent Romney supporters is ridiculous.

I will not vote for your Saint and I will not vote for Romney. The moment that either of those misfits wins the nomination, will be the very moment that Obama wins the election.

I won’t play your game.

Gator113 my FRiend,

This is no game... this is full all out war for the heart and soul of America... and it will not be won by any single candidate - INCLUDING RICK SANTORUM.

This is not about lifting up Rick Santorum as GOD or even “Saint”... but rather it is about WE THE PEOPLE deciding who is best to lead our Nation with a humble yet confident heart and seek God’s very best for We the People... individually and collectively... God has a plan for the United States of America. Do we have the collective courage to get on HIS plan or will we continue to choose our demise?

I do not worship Rick Santorum, but I do believe that Rick and I worship the same God. I wish I could say the same for Newtens and Mittens (my opinion).... Fortunately, I am not GOD, and certainly not the final judge of Newt or Mitt.... in fact I am convinced that job is already taken by the creator - the same God of Abraham - Isaac - and Jacob.. but we do not need to turn this into a theological discussion....

May God protect Rick Santorum and his family as the forces of evil rise up against him. I choose to stand in the gap for Rick Santorum will you join me?

“I have to wonder what Adelson might want”

The simple reason Adelson supports Gingrich is Newt’s
long-life stand for US - Israel strong allies, cooperation and friendship relations.

In 1995, Speaker Gingrich introduced the “Jerusalem Embassy Act”:

Declares it to be U.S. policy that:

Jerusalem remain an undivided city in which the rights of every ethnic religious group are protected;

Jerusalem be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel;

the U.S. Embassy in Israel be established in Jerusalem no later than May 31, 1999.

Makes specified amounts of such funds available until expended in FY 1996 and 1997 only for construction and other costs associated with relocating the U.S. Embassy Jerusalem.

Corresponding House bill is H.R.1595. Became Public Law No: 104-45, signed into law by president Clinton.

Source: Bill sponsored by 77 Senators and 78 Reps on Oct 13, 1995.

Since then presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama, although they all promised to implement the bill during the presidential campaigns , once elected they systematically postponed moving the Embassy to Jerusalem.

Newt Gingrich position (taken long BEFORE Andelson started to give money to the pro-Gingrich super PAC):

“Respect Each Sovereign Nation’s Choice of its Capital. Each sovereign nation, under international law and custom, may designate its own Capital. Accordingly, the U.S. State Department should be instructed to respect the choice of each sovereign nation and place the American embassy in their Capital. (Israel is the only country the United States discriminates against in this regard. The people of Israel have designated Jerusalem as their capital. Yet the United States retains its embassy in Tel Aviv.)

After being sworn to office, in my first day as president, I will sign an executive order to the State Department to immediately move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem”

This is not about you and I personally. This is about the current state of the GOP Presidential Primary... you can make it about me if you want to but in doing so you will have missed the larger point being discussed.

Prayers for you and Rick Santorum Gator113 my FRiend.

I’d much prefer that he partner up with some of his billionaire buddies and that they spend as much as it takes to get an authentic (REAL AMERICAN!) conservative TV network on the air before the November election.

We need all the help we can get to take Obongo Bozo and his LIEbera/Socialist/Marxist/Fascist hangers-on out of Washington, DC.

Since Fox News has gone over to the dark side, who is left to speak for us?

“Cain was vetted and attacked, Perry vetted and attacked, Bachmann vetted and attacked, Newt consistently smeared, attacked, vetted and bashed but SANTORUM is supposed to get a free pass on free republic? I think NOT!”

Well, sly Rick has been flying too long under the radar. Pointing out at his deeds as Congressman it certainly does not equate with “smearing”. It’s his time to pass the “smell” test, and in the last 48 ours, he gave the public so much fodder to chew on. The saddest part of Santorum declarations in the media, is to depaint the conservative voters as “religious nuts”. IMO, religion must be off limit in a presidential debate.

Once “Obamacare” and the executive orders issued from it repealed, all this “theological” blabbering will be over in a nick of time.

As Gingrich pointed out, one of the main reason to defeat Obama is the unconstitutionality of his acts as POTUS: the
NHD ukases against Catholic institutions, the nominations in “recess” of the Congress when there was no recess, the order of war acts in Libya without the Congress approval, the undermining of the Congress powers, the weakening of National Defense etc.

And what does Santorum do? Trying to solve the impossible problem of squaring the circle? We need serious candidates not preachers.

Marguerite,

I appreciate and respect your opinion. Nobody is suggesting that Rick Santorum is a “preacher” or has any intention of imposing his views on anyone. In fact if I voted on “THEOLOGY” I would not support Rick Santorum because I take issue theologicaly with the Catholic Church. HOWEVER, I do believe Rick Santorum has very strong moral convictions which is at the CORE of who he is and he is not afraid to tell you what he believes rather than being “neutral” on theological/moral matters...

I can respect someone I disagree with, but it is hard to respect someone who does not know what he/she believes or worse... Knows what he/she believes but refuses to share it because someone may disagree with you... wake up America ! I may not agree with Rick Santorum theologicaly but at least he has the courage to tell me what he believes. VERY REFRESHING.. and sadly missing from most political debate....

Let’s see if you pass the litmus test:

Do you agree with this? A simple YES or NO would suffice.

Santorum: “Pregnant rape victims should welcome their horrible gift from God”

How does it work? Do you really think that Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Ehad, sends a brute to rape a woman in order to give her a “horrible gift”?

To: Marguerite

litmus test? Really?

Rape is a crime. A pregnancy that results from a Rape is not a “gift” from God to the victim, but may in fact be a “gift from God to another family”. The simple fact reamins that the LIFE is still a LIFE.. and killing the baby that did not have a say in the matter should also be a crime... in my view... sadly our current law does not recognize the innocent child as a life with the same God Given, and constitutional protections of the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness you and I enjoy.

God forbid if my wife or daughter was a victim of a rape which resulted in her being pregnant by the criminal I am confident that the child, which will likely be born 9 months later deserves the same right to life most likely would be placed for adoption to give the child a “clean slate” in life.

Sorry no simple yes or no for that loaded question.
