SALISBURY A man is dead after authorities say he attempted to rob a Lee Street homeowner late Saturday night. The suspect broke into a home at 813 N. Lee St. and pistol-whipped the occupant. But the homeowner was able to get the gun and shoot the suspect.
Salisbury Police confirmed the struggle and that the would-be robber tried to run away around the corner from the house.
Police didnt identify the dead man pending notification of relatives. He died on the front porch of a nearby home at 125 E. Steele St. of a gunshot wound, said Salisbury Police Capt. Shelia Lingle.
The homeowners at 125 E. Steele St. were home at the time of the incident, around 10:30 p.m.
A second person may have been involved in the robbery attempt, but investigators could not confirm that.
The North Lee Street homeowner, a 47-year-old man, was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center with minor injuries and as a precaution, Lingle said.
One neighbor, Addie Sue Judge, said the homeowner knocked on her door and asked for help.
He told Judge he was hurt and he had just shot someone.
Judge said she was scared and regrets not letting the man into her house while she called police.
She said she saw two men running up the street after the shooting.
Hes a sweet guy, she said of her neighbor.
James Woodson, another neighbor, said he didnt hear the shooting.
Woodson said he was asleep and was awakened by the telephone. A neighbor called to ask him if he knew what was happening next door.
She called me and said, Look outside your door, Woodson said.
Other neighbors said they heard someone screaming for help, but didnt know who it was. No one gathered on the street Saturday night said they heard any gunshots.
The neighbors said the homeowner had just been robbed about two weeks ago.
Salisbury Police detectives continue to investigate.

The collective deafness and Ms. Judge refusing to let her clearly injured “sweet” neighbor into her house when he came to her for help says to me that this is not at all an uncommon occurance, and that they are all afraid of retaliation, whether it’s drug dealers, gangs or both. The injured homeowner had been robbed two weeks earlier. I suspect it’s the same individual this time, which will be the last time, in his instance. But, theyre all afraid of others, apparently.
Salisbury is a pretty old town, historic. It’s been hit hard for a decade or more though, job loss due to trade policy.
One less Obama voter. Keep rackin’ and stackin’ ‘em. Crime is very high in Obama-voting cities including DC, Phila, Cleveland, Detroit, etc. The more of these criminals who are killed, the better it will be for America.
the “sweet mans” problems have just begun. Now, he can wait to get sued by the family of the thug for “alienation of affection” or some such BS.
Where I live, neighbors help each other, we look out for each other, and everyone of us is armed. First gunshot, and we call out to each other. What has happened to people in this Country...
Good shooting, citizen. Civilization thanks you.
SALISBURY A lazy and dangerous excuse for a man is dead after authorities say he attempted to rob a Lee Street homeowner...
Where apathy reigns.... evil flourishes...
Hey, you left off the most crime ridden city in the nation, good ole Chicago.
Yep, sure did.
This past weekend was a Bloodbath in my old hometown.
7 Dead, 18 Wounded By Weekend Gunfire In ChicagoThe bad news is my wife has to go there shortly to take her mom in in for cataract surgery. Personally I HATE it when she has to go to the city but her mom will not move. Her 'area' is still "safe". ha.

But I can't go with 'cause she knows I will not go unarmed to my old "safe neighborhood" (and she don't like me carrying, some 'law thingy')
“Police didnt identify the dead man pending notification of relatives.”
We don’t know who he is but he was a good kid. Going back to school. Good to his mom. Taking care of his kids. Fell in with the wrong crowd.
This script from the 'relatives' - Auntie or Grandma - to the MSM is old and tired and nobody buys it any more. It's one big joke -- on them. But how come 'momma and daddy' is never one of "the relatives"? Where are they at? The MSM always seems to leave that out. I wonder why? /s
