(...) At a time of widespread dissatisfaction with Congress and the White House, the folks at Americans Elect see an opening for a popularly nominated presidential candidate. As Kahlil Byrd, the organizations chief executive officer, recently told Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, The issues and the ideas that will take the country to a better place are pretty obvious to the American people. They dont seem to be obvious in the governing that we have in Washington. (...)
Heres how the nominating process works: Any registered voter can sign up on the Americans Elect website to become an official delegate. From there, delegates can express policy preferences, learn more about the issues, and help draft and garner support for candidates. (...)
In June, the delegates will vote in an online nominating convention to choose the candidate from a winnowed field of six, all of whom will have agreed to run if nominated. The winner will be expected to select a running mate from the opposite side of the ideological spectrum and will have his name placed on the Americans Elect ballot line in November.
Americans Elect is not a political party, they insist, and after the nomination, the candidate will be on his own to raise money and campaign. All thats promised is ballot access, which is as valuable as cash to a non-major-party candidate. As a result of the groups impressive national petition drive, which has gathered more than 2.5 million signatures, the candidate will almost certainly be on the ballot in all 50 states.
So what will the peoples candidate be like? Elliot Ackerman says they have no ideal person in mind but hope to see a candidate who can resist being forced into the two narrow boxes that the two major parties have regarding policy positions.

All I know is that everyone I’ve seen promoting it is a moderate at best.
Christine Todd Whitman was pushing John Huntsman to run under the American’s Elect banner.
Another “WITLESS” idea to help the LIBERALS!
How does America Elect get their candidate on all 50 state ballots if they start in June?
The Republican National Convention doesn’t select its nominee until August 27th. Since June is much earlier, I don’t see a problem with Americans Elect getting their nominee on the ballots.
It’s a Soros-sponsored vote-siphoning scheme.

The candidates get their names on state ballots lots earlier than that, I think.
So can the Republicans in June put up a brand new candidate that has never been on a state primary ballot?
That wouldn’t surprise me.
“So can the Republicans in June put up a brand new candidate that has never been on a state primary ballot?”
Yes...
Gee, I’d run, I’m more conservative and have fewer skeletons than the others. I’d be reluctant to give up my competition schedule, though.
Think I could practice plates and bowling pins in the White House?
Yep, you just might...
There are undoubtedly tens of thousands of folks out there who would be better than the dems or the repubs...
It sucks that we are stuck with the ones that are running.
“Its a Soros-sponsored vote-siphoning scheme.”
That’s what I figured. The Dems will need a new Perot waiting in the wings to save Hussein.....
Oh, that's just brilliant. Not.
Infantile is more like it.
There’s a bowling alley in the White House, so go for it.
“Theres a bowling alley in the White House”
And didn’t it used to be a pistol range? So naturally as Prexy I could nuke bowling pins with a .45.
Soros bought and paid for.
This has been in the works since the last election. It is a strategy to re-elect Obama. A third party candidate from this group will be the Perot of 2012, as planned.
Yeah, that’d go over with the base, wouldn’t it? Sarah Palin running with Al Gore. There’s not enough duct tape in the world to prevent our brains from exploding ...
