Thanks for your thoughtful reply. From my standpoint, neither candidate is “perfect,” both have their share of gaffs and bad judgement moments. Politically, I happen to like both Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum on the issues.
No one has accomplished more towards conservative reforms than Newt. And Rick has a very good conservative voting record too. By the official campaign positions, both candidates are equal and earn my vote on the conservative issues.
As you can see from the 15 conservative issues hyperlink, Newt could have easily focused upon Myth’s multiple choice positions on the campaign issues and remained focused upon the differences. But Newt couldn’t.
Unfortunately in 1993, Newt supported and even co-sponsored individual mandate health insurance legislation. On this individual mandate issue, Newt’s position resembles Myth’s: Mutiple-choice.
So Newt engaged in a disingenous, left-wing-style smear upon Bain Capital’s business model; as a strike back at Myth Romney’s smears.
Newt talked himself out of pole position that day. The BIG difference between Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich. Even under pressure Reagan always correctly identifies government as the problem, not the solution.
Still liking Newt, but now I support Santorum for President. Neither was my first choice. Both are worthy of my vote.

This is a incorrect assessment of the type of character Newt has. Newt is the type of person who was driven from a very young age to reform the country. He really believes its his fate to shake things up for the betterment of the country.
Call it vanity if you will, but this is the type of character we need to change up Washington. And, frankly, his political history has always shown him to be an independent thinker. He doesn’t go with the flow.
Saint Rick does not come off like this. If anything, he is an opportunist seeking power for the sake of power. I base this on his deceptive behavior, in the way he has dishonestly attacked the other candidates early on, and his campaigning on family and social issues while claiming to be the “true conservative”, meanwhile he favors minimum wage, “Open Space” moderate nonsense, and thinking up ways to enforce censorship on video games or online porn.
These are two very different men. One has vision, the other is small minded. I choose Newt!
I missed that, care to focus a little more and explain how you turn the Reagan conservative into the villain now that you need to move Romney or Santorum into the White House?

I and some friends, none of us Romney fans, have set about exploring Santorum’s record since Wednesday morning. Here now is a non-exhaustive list of what we have found. It does not even include his support for No Child Left Behind, Medicare Part D, debt ceiling increases, funding the bridge to nowhere, refusing to redirect earmark allocations to disaster relief along the Gulf Coast post Katrina, etc.
