CUMMING, Ga. — Newt Gingrich Saturday blamed negative ads run by Mitt Romney and an allied independent group — not dissatisfaction with the Republican field — for depressing voter enthusiasm and turnout in the Republican presidential contest.
The former House speaker made his remarks at a campaign stop in Georgia, which holds its primary on March 6, Super Tuesday. Gingrich represented the state’s 6th congressional district for 20 years and is yoking his hopes for a campaign comeback to winning his former home state.
“It all hinges on Georgia,” Gingrich told an audience in Suwanee, saying victory in the state would serve as a springboard for racking up additional wins across the country. He later clarified his remark, saying he thought he had a good chance to win Georgia but it wouldn’t determine the fate of his candidacy.
“There are no slam dunk states,” Gingrich said.
Herman Cain, the former pizza executive from Georgia who dropped out of the presidential contest in December and has endorsed Gingrich, introduced him at campaign stops in suburban Atlanta.
While Gingrich insists he’s running a positive campaign focused on issues, he criticized Romney repeatedly for running attack ads — “negative junk” as Gingrich called them — which Gingrich said had demeaned the contest and turned off voters.
“It drove down participation,” Gingrich said. “We have a target, it’s called Barack Obama. The Romney people don’t seem to get that.”

who will have a heck of time getting women to vote for him. As depressed as the democratic women voters are, he will energize them. Please people turn course, help Newt. Obama's regime has to be fought, on ideas not just to remove him.

I just got back from the Cobb County Gingrich rally. I did
not know that Herman Cain would be there, but he was and
so was Phil Ginnery(?sp). Lots of people there. I had a
FR for Newt sign, but did not meet any other Freepers who
said they were going. I’m for Newt, then Santorum.
Sorry but I think Newt is the one who started all negative ads and Mitt retaliated....and I am not a Mitt supporter.

Romney and his sidekick RuPaul ran the first negative ads in the first state Iowa.
Mitt is now doing the same against Santorum.
He also pursued this line of “campaigning” in 2008. He is known for this.
The difference this cycle? The establishment GOP has his back...it wasn't his turn last time. It was McCains.
Newt took the high road in Iowa and respected Ronald Reagan's commandment. Mitt's extremely nasty and overwhelming negative blitz the last two weeks in Iowa cost Newt the state.
Don't put a bet on it you would lose" BIG TIME". Romney started all the negative ads and still has more to come. We are watching an election being bought. So far Santorum has been the benificiary but it will not last. Santorum has no chance against obama.
If you want to win the elction in 2012 vote for Newt!
So what justifies Newt by saying this when his own big money man with his SuperPac just gave Newt another $ 10 Million for the very purpose to go after Rick Santorum and not Romney ?
Yaaaawn. Maybe he thinks Ricky doesn’t like Las Vegas gambling.
