A prominent Republican senator just told me that if Romney cant win in Michigan, the Republican Party needs to go back to the drawing board and convince somebody new to get into the race. If Romney cannot win Michigan, we need a new candidate, said the senator, who has not endorsed anyone and requested anonymity. The senator believes Romney will ultimately win in Michigan but says he will publicly call for the party to find a new candidate if he does not. Wed get killed, the senator said if Romney manages to win the nomination after he failed to win the state in which he grew up. Hed be too damaged, he said. If he cant even win in Michigan, where his family is from, where he grew up. What about Rick Santorum? Hed lose 35 states, the senator said, predicting the same fate for Newt Gingrich. It would have to be somebody else, the senator said. Who? Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor.

I seem to grow more frustrated as the Political Season goes on.
Two women were talking politics in the checkout line the other day and when I heard one of them mention Newt’s Baggage I kinda lost it.
I said, “Excuse me mam, but Newt Gingrich has and energy plan that would make T. Boone Pickens weep with joy and every American standing in an unemployment line cheer. He’s the only candidate who has proven he can balance a budget. If you’ve got an hour, I can go on. He was exonerated on the charges made by his political enemies and forgiven for anything else by the Lord Jesus Christ. If that brilliant man has any other bags he needs carrying, I am available for the next eight years and I will gladly carry them , free of charge, and will consider it an Honor to do so!”
Wow! GOOD FOR YOU!!! What was their response?
Correct. He missed the point. If there are 20 important items on a conservative agenda, I will not agree with 2 of them. (or at least not care) That puts me in the line of fire. No matter who you thnk is the best candidate, that person is going to get slammed, even on this site.

Excellent.
I think every Freeper could educate half a dozen potential voters a day!
Bravo, bravissimo.
Well, after they picked their jaws up off the checkout counter, they actually started stammering things like, “Well, you know we could do a lot worse. He would sure be better than what we’ve got now.”
One of them asked me what I thought of Santorum. I said, Well the only problem I have with him is that I still don’t know what Rick proposes to do that would solve any of the major problems in our country. Do you?” She laughed and said, “Well, I don’t either.”
They were both very nice, but boy would I have loved to be an invisible passenger in their car on the way home.
Getting people to think based on issues, instead of feelings or emotions is more than half the battle.
Good to hear from you!
Good girl Hope you spoke loudly enough many people heard you.
Like Newt says, “People Power!”
I posted this on another thread, replying to someone who was talking about Newt’s “baggage”. I’m copying it for you here:
If at 68, a man has not baggage, that means his life was empty and his achievements were nil.
Talk about a baggage:
10 uninterrupted terms serving in the House of Representatives (1979 - 1999)
The House Republican Minority Whip (1990 - 1994)
The first Republican Speaker of the House in 40 years (1995-1999)
Author of 23 books, including Lessons Learned the Hard Way (1998), Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America (2005), Rediscovering God in America (2006), and To Save America: Stopping Obamas Secular-Socialist Machine (2010). He also co-wrote an alternative history series on the Civil War and World War II.
In 2003 he founded the Center for Health Transformation to develop a 21st century healthcare system that is centered on the individual.
Served on the Hart-Rudman Commission, formally known as the U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century
Gingrich has taught at the United States Air Forces Air University, where he is the longest-serving teacher of the Joint Flag Officer Warfighting Course.
Honorary Distinguished Visiting Scholar and Professor at the National Defense University where he teaches officers from all of the defense services.
Guiding coalition member of the Project on National Security Reform.
Created the production company Gingrich Productions, and religious educational organization Renewing American Leadership.
Fellow at conservative American Enterprise Institute and Hoover Institution.
Quite a baggage indeed!
I’m told my voice carries. It comes from being the youngest of six.:)
Beautiful! I didn’t see that on your other post, it is impossible to get to all the good stuff on FR. Thanks so much for sharing. What an Inspiration!
You can use it, if you meet those two ladies again:)
Great response! Most people think and speak in little slogans they have heard over and over again. Hope n change, hope n change. Newt is flawed, Newt is flawed. Romney is inevitable, Romney is inevitable. O baaaaa ma, O baaaaaaa ma.
It’s great that you challenged the chant with a complete thought. That was brave and merciful.
How many people would even bother to explain to those ladies?
I really think this is exactly what Newt means by
"Please don't vote for me, vote WITH me!"
Some of us do.
When people are anonymous, they can sound real tough behind a keyboard. Accountability is one reason why I use my real name. However, I understand why some people can't use real names due to potential political or personal retributions.
The singluar thing Romney has in his favor is percieved electability. I fail to see what good that does in the VP slot.
Awesome posts by both of you! Thank you so much!
Personally, I’ve looked at the candidates, and how they governed while in office. Newt, by far, is the best and most conservative candidate we have now.
At this stage I am utterly convinced that the GOP-E would rather lose with Romney than win with any true Conservative.
In fact, I am actually pretty convinced they have written off the 2012 election and are going to be perfectly happy to stay in the minority, as long as they continue to hold the House.
The possibility of a genuine Conservative who would come in with an actual intention to clean out Washington is the last thing they want. Things are good — for them — and that’s all they care about.
Not that I doubt that there are any.
But I also don't doubt that ABC is not above making stuff up to rake the muck.
A VP slot will not sit well with Romney, but given the political agenda of the Mormon church, he may be ordered to take it, to position him for another run at the Presidency.
I don’t think he would be Rick’s choice if the GOP E doesn’t strong arm a deal in the event neither has enough delegates to stand alone.
I can’t bring myself to vote for a ticket that has Romney on it, period. I hope we don’t reach a place where that happens. A lot can change in a short period of time, as we’ve seen, and we just have to keep working toward the best ticket we can get.
Thanks for your post.
