DETROIT -- The streak is alive -- and the Detroit Red Wings have three of their best players to thank for it.
Pavel Datsyuk broke a 1-1 tie by scoring with just 5.8 seconds left in regulation to give the Wings a 2-1 victory against the Nashville Predators on Friday night, extending their NHL-record home winning streak to 22 games.
With overtime looming, Nicklas Lidstrom controlled a bouncing puck in the neutral zone and backhanded a pass to Henrik Zetterberg, whose no-look pass caught Datsyuk in stride just as he hit the Nashville blue line.
Datsyuk took over from there, stickhandling around defenseman Ryan Suter before wristing a 15-footer over the left shoulder of goalie Pekka Rinne (29 saves) for his 16th goal -- sending the crowd into hysterics.
Johan Franzen also scored for the Wings (40-17-2), while Nick Spaling found the back of the net for the Predators (33-19-6) -- who came into the game with a stellar 13-2-2 record against Central Division opponents. They've now lost three of four against the Red Wings, though, including twice during Detroit's improbable streak.
The Wings matched the streak of 22 straight home wins by the Boston Bruins of 1929-30 and '30-31, the longest multi-season stretch in NHL history. They go for No. 23 when San Jose comes to Joe Louis Arena on Sunday.

He comes in one on three, perfect pass from Z-man, 5.8 seconds left, Predator defensemen lingerie left all over the ice.......
Woo Hoo! Twenty-two!!!
The Wings will play the Sharks at the Joe in Detroit on Sunday at 12:30 PM ET on NBC TV. Here’s hoping for a new record.

Dats-oops da man!!
My jaw is still on the floor 2 hours later. Nice no-look pass
by Zetterberg too. And Datsyuk is dangerous even lying flat on
the ice, as shown by his 1st period assist.
What a story. Just out of curiosity . . . Is this record helped by the fact that the NHL no longer has any ties?
Helped a bit in one sense, but there are several things that make it a much tougher thing to do than in the old days: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/detroit-red-wings-hit-21-straight-home-wins-034152724.html;_ylt=AtbJXwgn5YjlyuD5VjBPvQ17vLYF
I do believe you have a good point there.
I was disappointed that none of the Predators were Kronwalled, however. :)
Love the Red Wings!
heres hoping the Sharks get the two points at
the Joe. but Pavel is the most skilled F now
playing.
It’s always a tough match-up for the Wings, what with the Sharks head coach coming from the Wings 2008 SC Championship coaching staff. Should be a great game Sunday.
