Republican donor expected to provide $10 million to Gingrich SuperPAC

Washington (CNN) - In a move that could again dramatically shake up the Republican primary race, billionaire and major Republican donor Sheldon Adelson is expected to donate an additional $10 million to the super PAC supporting Newt Gingrich, Winning Our Future, a source with knowledge of the donation told CNN.

That contribution is expected soon, before the end of the month, the source said. The timing is important because Gingirch, whose campaign has been lagging, is hoping to do well in several of the upcoming Super Tuesday states that vote on March 6 to boost his effort. His allies will need that money to be in a position to help. Because ten states go to the polls on that one day, money is key in order to do well.

Such a large gift will give Winning Our Future a major financial shot in the arm and will help it narrow the financial disparity it has with the super PACs supporting Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. Both of those groups are up with major TV ad buys while Winning Our Future is up with several radio ad campaigns.

The REAL delegate count (actually pledged), as per the RNC:

Romney 73
Gingrich 29
Paul 8
Santorum 3
Huntsman 2

CBS is reporting that he already gave 11 million to Newt's super PAC. This brings the total to 21 million.

“Adleson and his family have already given $11 million to “Winning our Future,” the super PAC backing Gingrich. The group, which bombarded the airwaves in South Carolina last month ahead of the primary there, is largely credited with helping Gingrich win in the Palmetto state.

The latest $10 million cash injection would raise the Adelson family's contribution to $21 million, and a different source close to Adelson said he is prepared to drop another $4 million for a total of $25 million. “

Since this contrasts with previous reports that Adelson wasn’t planning further donations to the SuperPAC, what changed?

The best way to end Romney’s chance at the nomination is to show video of Liberal Romney.

Follow the money. My take is, Rick won’t play with Adelson, but both Newt and Mittens will in terms of keeping online gambling illegal. Adelson now thinks Newt has a better shot of
both the primary and against zero, and if he takes Perry as VP, maybe the casino market in TX can open up a little.

What do you think Adelson’s thinking?

This is probably GOOD news for the Romney Campaign. Santorum had all the momentum and was threatening Romney everywhere. If Newt gets this money it can only serve to hurt Santorum and divide the anti-Romney vote.

Conservatives have to keep Newt alive, Santorum voters choose Romney as their second choice, this is a race between Romney, a 2008 Romney supporter and possible Romney veep, and Gingrich.

Romney is not debating Newt in GA?

Newt should ignore Santorum and stay with the positive message. Let Romney swing away at Santorum.

Santorum’s biggest negative is himself. The more he speaks the more you’ll get bored and vote for someone else.

I’m new, so my opinion may not count for much. But it’s possible that he likes Newt’s strong pro-Israel stance. He may be willing to go toe-to-toe with anti-Israel George Soros.(Just thinking.)

Sequence of events:

• Adelson sees Newt falling in polls after FL.

• Newt delivers barnburner speech at CPAC

• MSM reports Adelson cuts funding

• Individual Newt donations skyrocket

• Adelson gets back in game

This is how I see it

This could have been the biggest ‘Game Changer’ in the race.

"Since this contrasts with previous reports that Adelson wasn’t planning further donations to the SuperPAC, what changed?"

"Just last week, the media was reporting on private meetings between Mitt Romney & Adelson, allegedly to get him to stop backing Gingrich. Now the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Adelson is going to pump $10 million to a Gingrich super PAC to go after Santorum on Super Tuesday."

Newt gave a great speech at CPAC. Unfortunately, he was overshadowed by the Media gasping at Romney’s dominating win in the straw poll. After busing in all of his supporters what else would anyone expect?
