Newt or Rick can easily beat Obama as long as they don’t get off message — jobs, economy, debt, foreign policy, government intervention, government waste, broken promises, obscructionist Senate, Constitution trampling, rinse and repeat.

These are things that energize conservatives and a large number of independents.

Stay far, far away from any and all social issues. It is the only thing that ever energizes the Democrat base and turns many independents away.

There is a reason Obama is declaring war on the Catholic Church. He is trying to change the debate to motivate his base. Ever since the debate changed he began rising in the polls. If the Republicans can just stay on msg they can win.

As soon as they stray, they hand the election to the Marxist in Chief.

So, if a debate moderator or reporter asks Santorum: "do you favor gay marriage and abortion?"; should he say "yes", or "no comment", or what?

Nonsense. There's a reason Democrats try to keep gay marriage referendums off of the ballot, especially during an important election. Those issues energize the conservative base. Obama is trying to make birth control the issue, because abortion is an increasingly loser issue for the libs. I don't think we want to be talking about birth control per se, but abortion and gay marriage are winning issues for us. This episode with the church needs to be played out as Obamacare giving the government control over our lives. If they came for the church on this, who will they come after next? And what's to stop a conservative president from stepping in and deciding to ban birth control if they have this much power over health care? The argument can be made to both sides of the aisle.

“Stay far, far away from any and all social issues. It is the only thing that ever energizes the Democrat base and turns many independents away.”

I thought most of the Santorum support here WAS because of and including social issues. So now “staying away” is the answer? That sounds like what the purists have been fighting for all through this primary. . . . standing up for conservative principles.

Btw, anyone who thinks the media will close their eyes and ignore “social issues” in this national election is totally out of touch.

“As soon as they stray, they hand the election to the Marxist in Chief.”

STRAY? They don’t have to stray. The media will force the issue whether they “stay on your message” or not. It will be total defense for Santorum, unfortunately.
