Prices for gasoline are hitting record highs in France, where a gallon now costs more than $8 in some areas. That's the word from Eleanor Beardsley, who filed a report for our Newscast unit:
"Prices are up because of problems with two of France's main oil suppliers. Nigeria is racked by civil unrest, and European Union sanctions bar France from importing oil from Iran."
"A lower euro has also raised the price of gasoline because crude oil prices are denominated in dollars."
"The head of Total, France's largest oil company, said he could not exclude prices going as high as 2 euros a liter or more than $10 a gallon. Total says the only way to bring prices down is to find more sources of oil."

The average citizen in France and in most Western European countries drives a ton of miles less than the average citizen in the U.S. Reason is that most Metropolitan Cities and routes between cities in France and Western Europe have a public (rail) transportation system that accomodates the majority of commute and travel. Outside of NYC our public system in cities is woefully inadequate and when you get into the rural areas non-existent. An $8.00 dollar per gallon in Europe doesn’t concern the majority of their populations, but in the U.S where we are dependent on the Automobile the price of Gasoline is a very big deal.
What the dumbass did not count on was so many being out of work that are not driving...
