TULARE, Calif. -- Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign has a history of near-death experiences and he insists another resurrection is on its way.
"I'm very happy to continue this campaign based on real solutions that ... are going to attract a lot of Americans," Gingrich said Monday during a fundraising swing in California. "We've done it twice and I suspect you're about to see us do it again."
The third time may not be the charm. Gingrich sustained a string of disappointing performances in several state contests last week and has watched rival Rick Santorum emerge as the leading conservative opponent to Mitt Romney.
While Romney and Santorum move toward a face-off in Michigan's primary Feb. 28 and Romney campaigns to win Arizona the same day, Gingrich has all but stepped off the trail to focus on raising money. Ahead lie the 10-state Super Tuesday contests of March 6, including a handful of Southern states where he hopes he can revive his sputtering candidacy.
"Newt has to do two things simultaneously: Drive a movement for the 60 to 75 percent of Republicans who are conservative and don't want Romney to get the nomination," said Rick Tyler, a former Gingrich aide now with Winning Our Future, a "super" political action committee backing his candidacy. "Then he has to get out the primary map and look at states that are conservative and focus on them."
Gingrich has a record of resuscitating his candidacy when others have written him off.

I’m absolutely convinced that Newt Gingrich is the junkyard dog we need to rip Obama a new one and send him running back to his Chicago slime pit with his tail between his legs. Newt has plenty of DC experience as Speaker, executive ability from his many enterprises, and a silver tongue that’s razor sharp! He’s fast on his feet, delivers it straight up with no hemming and hawing, and is often witty. His work with American Solutions was very impressive and as we’ve seen recently, Newt is able to put into words what the vast majority of Americans really believe. His fevered brain also has plenty of ideas for making government work better for taxpayers. Is Newt pure as the driven snow? No - none of the presidential candidates are in line for sainthood. Whatever Newt’s “baggage”, it pales next to Obama’s habitual lying and outright corruption - and unlike Obama, Newt is 100% American! Newt is like Larry the Cable Guy: send him to DC and he’ll “Get ‘er done” for all of us. Junkyard dogs are not show dogs, but they’ll save your bacon! I am damn mad at what Obama and his bootlickers have stolen from us - you should be too - and I want someone to represent me. Newt is my man! Go git ‘im, Newt!

The only reason I voted for Newt in SC was because I didn’t want to risk Romney taking it. (My wife voted for Santorum.) So, it was a question of momentum and I didn’t want to split the not-Romney vote.
I probably would have felt better about voting for Santorum. I’m happy that he has momentum now.
Don’t fall for the media bias.
Newt didn’t GO anywhere. The media simply ignored him to create the appearance of him going away.
I am not seeing Newt supporters either in person or on the internet claiming to be jumping ship. They aren’t. The media (both Rep and Dem) are doing their best to damage his name recognition by not talking about him at all.
Can’t say how it will turn out, but none of the conservative friends I have are writing Newt off or jumping to someone else, they are just terrified because they are having to stand on their own without big public media reinforcing what they KNOW is the right chioce.
He’s a long way from being out yet. Time and conviction of voters will tell.

How did Newt's endorsement of DEDE SCOZZAFAVA work out?

First of all if you understood the times you would have understood that the right was being excoriated for the perception that they cared nothing about the environment. Gingrich, by his own statement, was trying to nullify that perception so he could get other things accomplished. If those on the right are not allowed to use some of the tactics used by the left we will lose on a perpetual basis. I think Newt was brilliant in doing that for what he was trying to accomplish. I’m not sure the conservative voter is smart enough to follow on that but we can’t work much with stupid anyway.
Second, he has already stated that the visual of that was misconstrued and was, in hindsight, a poor choice of tactic. I would add that it was only a poor tactic because of the naiveté of the conservative voter.
I really don’t get it… It would seem very clear to anyone paying attention that Newt is by far the best candidate.
I agree. Newt owes no on in DC and they know it and are afraid of him. They know darn well that he not only knows how to get things done on Capitol Hill but that they won’t be able to buy him off or demand payback of past favors.
Worse than that. They made their deal behind closed doors so you don’t know what they were up to. It’s an indication of how Santorum would work if elected.
Rick is riding high on the rising tide of the willingly ignorant and the uninformed. When Rick's record and puritanical opinions become known he will be the Media's favorite target and Conservatives worst nightmare. We should all pray that Rick's shortcomings become well known BEFORE he can gain the nomination.
